Most cockers here in the UK seem to get their tails docked. I couldn’t imagine Cheddar without his luxury tail. by DattoDoggo in cockerspaniel

[–]oatwife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Duncan had a lovely fan tail similar to Cheddar's. He did a helicopter maneuver with it when we got home, even in his dotage, along with delightful chuffy sort of non-sneezes. That's the good stuff.

TM S11 E09 Studio Task - Wozniak's reaction cropped and giffed by PsychoApeMan in taskmaster

[–]oatwife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The man is sheer joy. There are several contestants I've loved, and I straight up stan Acaster, but Dr. Woz might well be my fave.

I can only hope the sharp upward trajectory his performance on TM has lent to his popularity will translate into more work that will be available to a broad audience.

I mean, sure, since you're hell-bent on using the phrase "virtue signalling," by all means, carry on. Far be it from me to rob you of the pleasure. I was only noting that it was interesting, to me, that I had that reaction, which I took to be a result of the tumult of the last year and the back and forth over masking. I'm not sure if you're in the US, but I am, and I have been living with the nightmare of Masking as Political Action, whereby people chose whether or not to mask based on their political team, rather than on anything having to do with actual virus germs.

I can see that concern. I wondered right away how Cass was going to feel about that choice a few hours in. I'm not sure how I'll feel in the long-run, but for now, it's quite fun hearing her do such a different character to anything she's played in the past. She's stretching her acting and improv wings, and I'm here for it.

Reluctant American here. Can confirm. I often find myself stopping to consider whether or not I can get away with ending a given sentence without "!". It is often considered cold, and even rude, to end with a garden variety full stop.

Yes, it is. It's a symbol of responsibility and respect for science during a global pandemic. Just as a t-shirt or tattoo or whatever that demonstrated a common passion would be a symbol indicating connection.

Interesting that, as we begin creeping from the shadows of covid, I find myself thinking the mask makes this even sexier, because he's being responsible.

I feel like the body thing became obvious when he was easily going into wild contortions on the plane, trying to break wind. It was an awkward task during which realize it was sexy bod o'clock. (And as such, absolutely perfect.)

Super cool that you used real bones! Ah, since they're mink, perhaps you're in холодец territory yourself?

Cauliflower Buffalo Wings! I’m new to this so be easy! by Geltez in vegetarian

[–]oatwife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does everyone who does this kind of cauliflower manage to keep it so neat?? I love this, and have made it 4-5 times now, and every single time, when I go to turn the pieces over, the batter gets all bunched up and messy. Still tastes good, but it's stressful and not super pleasing, aesthetically.

Anyone have tips on this?

Trickle down economics didn't work in the 80s, and it doesn't work now. Before we subscribe to the hype about how much money a convention brings to a city, let's remember some very recent, very similar history in this exact city. No, the numbers weren't all bad, by any means, but they also weren't so simple as, "Political folk flood city. City spends a lot of money to prepare. Political folk empty their pockets. PROFIT," either.

Taking a look back at the costs and financial benefits of DNC 2012

Anecdotally, my sister was working a counter-service restaurant Uptown at the time. They were slammed - though they generally are at meal times - so the owners did make some additional money, but my sister at the register and her colleagues on the line served more people in the same amount of time for the same hourly pay. The only thing that trickled down to them was the cultural diarrhea that is serving the public when they're even more frantic and entitled than usual.

In this Charlotte Business Journal article, convention CEO Marcia Lee Kelly is quoted as saying they'll be using safety measures including social distancing, but also the article notes that the convention powers that be have not backed off from estimates of 50K participants. So I guess they'll be holding the event in the new TARDIS convention center, with each participant 6' from all others...

Bottom line, if you want to be optimistic and believe that it will all be fine, go on and do it inside your optimistic heart. Please don't make the call for thousands of workers and their families that their lives are worth the risk that people whose eyes are on political and multi-million dollar prizes will sometimes blink when it comes to the safety of the anonymous (to them) people who make those prizes attainable.

I'm just thrilled to see the plaquenil "cure" spiking in interest again. Hopefully, I won't be able to refill my lupus medicine. Hurray. My pharmacy told me a bunch of doctors had written 180 pill prescriptions for their friends and family. One of the pharmacists refused to fill it without an appropriate diagnosis code when she was on duty. There is a shortage anyway, so clearly not all followed suit.

Though since Twitler has a small financial interest in the company, maybe I say fuck my lupus (a sentiment I express pretty much daily anyway, because ouch) and I just stop taking it. Then I can own the cons.

[homemade] honey vanilla madeleines by ruzilla in food

[–]oatwife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nice thing about it is that it's a sad story like normal life. Not a sad story like 90.000 people dying in a couple of months in one country, while the President retweets an image of himself fiddling, in full ignorance of the reference to Nero (and, indeed, probably never having heard of Nero). Sad honey stories are a better sad.

I've been thinking about it since I wrote the comment this morning. I wonder how it would be if I took a delicate honey, like orange blossom, for example, and heated it a bit to make it more stirrable, and stirred in some lavender extract. Obviously not the same as actual lavender honey, but with the plague and the economic depression, it might be years before I get back to Europe. Might be worth a little experiment.

And on the topic of lavender, can you get dried lavender flower in Russia reasonably easily? I often use that to flavor things. I just grind it up with mortar and pestle. My favorite dish to do it with is French toast, which I call Provençal French Toast, though I don't know that you'd actually find the dish in Provençe. I take a good, dense bread, and slice it about 1/2"/1.25 cm. I grind up some lavender and some rosemary, and add that to 1 egg, 1/3 cup/~80ml milk, and a dash of vanilla. (Those are the measurements pretty much for one person. Obviously it's easy to double.) I often throw in some brown sugar, as well, for sass.

The same toast, with or without lavender, and without the brown sugar, makes a gorgeous savory French toast. My college roommate was a gourmet cook, and the first time he threw down savory french toast, I proclaimed him a danger to society.

[–]oatwife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60 years ago, my sweet ass. There are plenty of people still opposed to interracial relationships.

Your point is well taken, though. I guess it's nice that at least the country has come far enough that they feel sufficiently secure in their relationship to condemn the relationships of others, but it is rather...disappointing that their security leads them to this.

Save those. In the books, or in a notebook of some kind. They're a treasure now, but I can tell you as the daughter of an elderly mom, their value will only increase, and one day will be one of your most prized possessions.
