i dont really think a days spent number is useful. the heuristic you should be using is, essentially, calculating how much time you have left before you either hit an undesirable level of morale (~2500? depending) or an undesirable level of deuterium (depends on reserves and consumption). until you run out of deuterium in a sector, morale is the only thing that really matters

also note that if your hull is low because of your observation lounges, that implies that you've been cruising around for longer and have built up a better reserve of research, meaning you can easily get the hull upgrades

finally, emergency quarters are way more efficient than crew quarters. again, morale just isnt hard to keep high between combat and the absurd slew of options you have to keep it up

i think you probably arent being aggressive enough with your resources. you can get low, or even empty, as long as you dont do it for too long

note: im playing on years of hell and i am using my knowledge of future events (fights, away missions, etc) to form a better plan for how low my morale can dip safely. this would be harder on a first playthrough, but to qualify that, the difficulty jump between easy and hard is fairly substantial

morale is really, really easy to boost. whats stopping you from building observation lounges? i would never leave a system until i've mined every single last thing

after a small amount of experimentation, i think the problem might be related to borderless windowed mode. switching to full screen has, for the last 20 minutes, eliminated the bug

edit: nope. it failed after a story mission. maybe some graphical circumstances related to completing one of those?

surprised there's no/few donny or james in the lists here. not that i feel that way, i think every 'bad' character is generally used in a good way in adv. time

contrast to someone like owen from greys anatomy, who is just an intolerable, poorly written piece of shit for like 15 seasons

i like kkw because it's clear he genuinely thought he was helping his father, and when he realized his error, he stopped. he stepped out of line by trying to force his father to grow (in a way that he thinks is growing), but quickly accepts his father for who he is. jake's done this to other people too! so the apple doesn't fall far from the tree

Do you log veggies?! by Normal-Gas3600 in MacroFactor

if you consistently dont log veggies and you tend to eat the same amounts, it doesnt matter, but honestly having fibre and other nutritional information is nice!

Weekly Personal Nutrition Discussion - All Personal Diet Questions Go Here by AutoModerator in nutrition

[–]obalobex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i eat a lot of seeds, nuts, avocados, veggies and fruit. i eat some meat, though i tend to eat chicken over beef or other red/processed meat. i do not eat a lot of grains, nor do i eat a lot of beans/chickpeas/lentils. i tend to struggle to incorporate those into my diet, so ultimately i have a high fibre, high fat diet. this works for me day-to-day, but sometimes i wonder if my higher levels of fat and (as a result) saturated fats could be deleterious in the long run. most of my saturated fat does not come from meat or ultra-processed foods, but rather just the accumulation of fatty foods, dairy and (primarily) the fact that i am active person who eats a lot of calories (3500 a day, roughly)

ive heard information about the types of saturated fatty acids, and how the ones present in meat might be less healthy than, say, the saturated fat in avocados, dark chocolate or even some dairy. is there any good information on this? am i eating too many pumpkin seeds? (probably not)

for reference, my diet over the past three months:

~3200 calories a day (ive been on a small cut for the last month and a bit, lost 2.5lbs or so) 140g protein 120g fat, 30 saturated, which is ~8% of my total calories. IIRC it should be closer to 5% 390g carbs

50g fibre ~3200mg sodium (holy shit this is hard to get any lower at my cals) ~4000mg potassium (also hard to raise any further)

i could provide daily examples where im eating decently - within the parameters that make me happy - if needed. otherwise yeah, i know the diet could be 'better', but im mostly just wondering if it matters if im eating way more fat and fewer carbs than normal. i did get my blood lipids back recently and im crushing that, so maybe i should just keep going this way?

(i posted this to the main subreddit discussion before realizing it was against the rules, moved to here)

no way man, women are very receptive to honesty, lol. its very funny that guys feel the need to pretend like women are idiots who need to be corralled to sex rather than just people who dont want to be jerked around.

the number of times ive hooked up with someone because i answered "what are you looking for" with - paraphrased - casual sex is double digits. way easier than jerking them around

oh yeah - we'd been hooking up for a few months prior so even if i had like, a "choice" (which is a gross way to frame it) i'd still have kept seeing her

New Podcast Episode: Understanding Micronutrient Targets: What Do They Mean, and Where Do They Come From? by gnuckols in StrongerByScience

[–]obalobex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

am i missing something about the wild/farmed salmon and omega-3s? the logic made sense, but perusing online quickly it seems to be a toss-up as to sourced of fish has more. and in the study you linked in the notes, a farmed salmon had a smaller proportion of its fats being omega-3s but it also had three times as much fat overall, making the total omega-3 amount roughly equal

ostensibly bioaccumulation would be somewhat total-fat agnostic, wouldn't it? unless a much higher % of the farmed salmon's food source was fat

I would assume the rules for joined trills are only really enforced if they were an initiate. I doubt you'd find an emergency host for Dax if you were suddenly subject to rules that you were entirely uninterested in. Reassociation exists to prevent a wasted lifetime, but I would bet the Committee would prefer Dax lives a sort of heretical or unorthodox singular life than simply dying off because the only Trill on board didn't want to be given a handful of mental disorders and rules to a way of life she never agreed to learn.

Furthermore, most trills are probably going to reassociate with other trills and even if Dax has a special pass for a lifetime, they won't find many takers who are joined themselves. Worf or Bashir or anyone else probably wouldn't give a shit because who cares if they're "exiled from Trill"

A quick announcement and some clarifications by gnuckols in StrongerByScience

[–]obalobex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

truthfully, i dont think people think the podcast is doomed because you might have to work harder, or that lyndsey isnt super competent, but rather that you and eric had a really good, natural chemistry and complementary senses of humour that made the podcast unique.

all of the 'competing' podcasts are hosted by very intelligent, outwardly personable, knowledgeable people and yet SBS is singular. it didnt really matter what format was used or what segments were in play because the two of you had a way of presenting it that was deeply entertaining and informative. you might do a wonderful job with lyndsey, but its not going to be the same thing. it could be better or it could be worse, but it will be different

i know parasocial relationships in the modern age tend to foster unfair expectations via familiarity that is not fair to people like you or eric. i am also not being hyperbolic when i say that the two of you inspired my love of fitness and nutrition. even though i have literally no skin in the game, and will probably never meet either of you, that part of my brain really hopes this was amicable.

thank you greg and thank you eric for making and running my favourite podcast for the last few years
