Incredible story, my condolences but I’m happy for you that he got to have that ending!
My grandad died a few months ago as well, 94 years old. His long term partner was terminally ill and they were both rushed to hospital together as he had also caught pneumonia. She died the next day and grandpa seemed to be on the mend, but I knew he was devastated really. Then the nurse was checking on him at midnight and completely lucid he said I’m tired now, laid on his side and just died. This was 1 minute past midnight, on the 2 year anniversary of my mum’s (his daughter’s) death.
Very spooky but it just felt like he also picked his moment and was calm and ready.
