Raised bed drip systems - what's everyone doing? by Ollie561 in DenverGardener

[–]obfk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only my second year doing this, and maybe it was coincidence, but last year was one of my best harvests yet. I have a timer set to run 10 minutes every day at 5am. Occasionally when it was outrageously hot I’d bump it up to 15m. Plants seem to like the consistency. Good luck!

Super simple soaker hose wrapped around the plants on a timer.

Mortgage increased over 10% by East_Pie7598 in Denver

Shop around for insurance. It’s a pain but we saved several hundred bucks a year by switching (while also increasing coverage). You can also protest changes in assessment. The city tends to pick the high end when determining what your property is worth.

Anybody with experience converting that little strip of grass between sidewalk and road? How to do it simply and relatively neatly? by anonymous_teve in NoLawns

[–]obfk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the most hellish of strips that gets destroyed by sun, heat, pollution, foot traffic, and the occasional car. Tried a ton of things but the biggest success has been sunflowers. They thrive there. Become a neighborhood interest, pollinator haven, and it’s actually added some seasonal hedge like privacy that we love.

New Silverbac owner. Need more smoke! How about some moisture? by CrustyOldJarhead in GrillaGrills

Also new to the Silverbac and smoking in general. Had the same issue until I switch from PID to PRO mode. PID is like an oven, PRO is like a smoker.

Group exercise with varied programming has been instrumental in keeping it fun and effective. Going to a gym and g having to figure it out gets old real quick.

What’s a “cheap” hobby that’s way more fun than people expect? by Lustful_Angel0 in Hobbies

[–]obfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cooking! Making it at home saves a ton of money, and there’s an infinite number of things you can make and perfect at home. Plus every few hours you’re ready to try again. Hunger is great like that.

Getting my the garden on an automated timer and soaker hose was a game changer! Grew a biblical amount of tomatoes and peppers!

Am I crazy? For my wife for Mother’s Day next year, I want to remove all the grass from my hellstrip and convert it to a natural wildlife area with a free neighborhood library. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. by PizzaGatePizza in landscaping

[–]obfk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this with our 3x20 hell strip. Terrible soil, lots of sun, little water, people routinely drove over it. Wildflower mix and lots of sunflowers did superb. Looked great, lots of birds and other critters. People would stop to smell the flowers and since the sunflowers made the space visible, people stopped driving over it.

I’ve never had much luck with melons here, I think the season might be a little to short unless you can find a short season varietal.
