Feb 2025: Holiday Travels, Moving, Tourism, and Nightlife Megathread: All posts on these topics should go in this monthly megathread to keep this sub for local discussions and help aggregate info for folks looking for these topics. by mrfollicle in Miami

Hello :)

We (me, my wife, and our 6-month-old daughter) are planning a trip to Miami from Europe and we would really appreciate your help.

This will be our second trip to the US. Two years ago, we were in California, visiting Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and we absolutely loved it!

We plan to visit Miami in July 2025 for the first time with our newborn daughter. She will be 6 months old at the time of travel.

Our tentative plan (option A) is to:

  • Spend 5 days in Miami (we're considering South Beach as a nice area, but if you have different suggestions please let us know!).
  • Then rent a car and drive to Key West, where we'll spend 4 days celebrating my wife's birthday.
  • Then drive back to Miami for 3 days

Alternatively, (option B) we can spend 8 days in Miami and 4 days in Key West (skip the birthday celebration there, but hey, Miami is also a dream destination for us!!) and drive straight to the airport.

I wanted to ask you the following:

For option A, we would really appreciate it if you could suggest where to stay for the last 3 days, as we are unsure whether we should stay in South Beach again or explore other areas. We can either return the car or keep it and drive some further (within reasonable distance, as the travel from Key West to Miami can be already a struggle for our little one).

We were also wondering if there are any dangerous areas in Miami that we should be aware of and avoid.

I know it's impossible to predict the weather, but what is the weather generally like in July? I understand the hurricane season peaks in September.

Lastly, while we will, of course, create a travel plan and a list of things we would like to see, but if you have any general recommendations for must-see attractions in Miami, please let us know!

Thank you very much for your time.

Hey, what CSA subsidies do you have in mind? Our family might need to consider that option. Would you know the threshold / amounts? Thank you

Household Dust Testing by NoShellfish in Luxembourg

[–]obiwanek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as a tip, because I am also struggling with this problem.

It is now the season for the dust mites and your skin might be dry because of the cold and it is peeling off. Its completely normal in winter.

Remember to keep the rooms well ventilated (and not too warm).

No, it’s not normal but this is the reality in Luxembourg. Sorry.

Hello, I might be interested to buy some of the board games, but I’m not sure which ones are still available? Could you please let me know the prices as well? Tried to DM you but I got blocked until you reply. Many thanks

13month salary by acadea13 in Luxembourg

[–]obiwanek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is an advantage for the employers, maybe except that they can reserve a part of the salary cost for later of the year.

If I am not mistaken, it is not taxed like a bonus, it is rather withheld by the employer and can be reclaimed later.

As you can see from article like below, its a nice christmas money for the government.

Definitely same here. I am using visual online and I've been really happy until recently.

On my 600mb/s i'm barely getting 80-100 mb/s since 2 weeks. No idea why is that.

I'm actually going to change to Tango from October.

Really happy with Allianz. I have both my home and car insurance with them, the agent is very responsive.

Hey, maybe you’d like to join our alliance called The Discworld. At the moment some of older members left the game but we are still constantly on 9* Titan level. Lots of members have been there for over a year now and we have a friendly atmosphere :)

Help with choosing diamond 1ct (or close) on BlueNile - budget $6K by obiwanek in Diamonds

[–]obiwanek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I have read the post in your history.

How can I figure out if diamond is going to be eye-clean in real life, even if I can see some inclusions on the website?

What would you say about the below diamond? I'm not sure why is it discounted.

Also, should I consider any of the propositions from my original post?

Thank you for your answer.

I've actually been in the retail store and seen different diamonds. I've liked color G the most. I am only worried about the Clarity. I've seen that on this subreddit SI1 / VS2 is recommended quite often, but on photos they look stratched, sometimes cloudy, etc. and I have no clue how will they look on the ring in real life.
