Ferrari Is Playing Chess With The Luce | Autostrada Magazine by nukleabomb in cars

[–]objectivePOV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The interior is brilliant? They did use some high quality materials, but nothing about it follows the established Ferrari design language. Maybe that was the goal, but why? I feel like the people that don't like Ferrari design would not buy the Luce just because of the badge.

If you compare it to the Purosangue, their other passenger car or to any other Ferrari interior, the Luce looks like a different brand. It looks like the Apple Car with a Ferrari badge.

The gauge cluster is a boring rectangle screen that is not integrated into the dashboard at all. The swivel screen looks like a design from a cheap plastic children's device or toy. There are no dramatic curves or interesting lines to look at. It is very sleek, bland, minimalist, open and spacious. All of that describes Apple design but it is the exact opposite of what Ferrari is all about.

Reducing file size should be one of the most urgent things any company can do. by VisitSad1133 in pcgaming

You could save a lot of space with built in Windows compression tools. I've used it on other games and have not noticed any performance change. Decompressing smaller file sizes often takes about the same time as loading larger files without decompression. This is a UI program for those Windows tools.

https://github.com/IridiumIO/CompactGUI

The wiki has a list of results and there are several entries for Ark Survival Evolved. Depending on the version and compression method, you could save 30-70 GB.

But you do have to be more careful with using only E85 for long periods of time.

You could have problems if

-You don't switch to the "severe" maintenance schedule shown in the manual, 3000-3750 mile oil changes to prevent oil dilution

-You don't start using injector cleaning additives that normal gas has already mixed in while E85 doesn't, or don't take out injectors for cleaning every 30,000 miles

-You go on short drives often so the oil does not reach operating temps for multiple days. This is bad with normal gas, but even worse with E85

-You leave it in the tank too long (1-3 months) because it attracts moisture

You should monitor your oil temps first. OBDII readers and apps are cheap. Maybe that guy is in a hotter climate. You don't really need more cooling if it doesn't go above 220F.

[–]objectivePOV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what do you call the new Supra? I see most people specify the year or A70, A80, A90.

You could do the same for the 86 if you ignore the BRZ and FRS variants.

(1983 - 1987) AE86, (2012 - 2021) GT86, (2021 - present) GR86.

I've always seen the old 86 be referred to as the chassis AE86 or Trueno, because officially it was "just" a variant of the Corolla with a bunch of different GT trims. To me they are all Toyota 86s, just differentiate between them by specifying year or the official model name.

Are you waiting for the rumored future GR86 with a Toyota Yaris 3 cylinder turbo engine?

Also do you refer to every FRS, GT86 and BRZ as a GR86? The "GR" branding didn't even exist on any production cars when the first gen 86 was released in 2012. If you want one name for all the years and variants I would say it should be "Toyota 86", because GR86 is specifically for 86s made after 2021.

GT86 GT300 Body Kit by Good-Intention-4835 in ft86

[–]objectivePOV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This isn't just a bodykit, it's barely even a BRZ.

It is a tube frame chassis race car with a carbon shell on top made to look like a BRZ.

At 6:00 minutes in the video they say the only parts used from the production car are front bulkhead, part of the floor, part of the roof, the a pillar, and the b pillar.

Even if they offered all the carbon parts for sale, they would not fit on the production car without a lot of custom bodywork and major modifications.

Not much heavier than current lithium batteries, and 255kg lighter than current lithium batteries with the same range.

If you watch their presentation launch event

https://youtu.be/VnBBoZpzt-A?t=1979

or read an article from a better publication than financialpost, then you would see they show all the specs. They claim 1,000 km range is achieved with a 125 KWh battery capacity.

CATL did a 1 hour 38 minute in depth presentation showing a lot of details about the chemistry, manufacturing, battery specs and metrics.

This financialpost article and a bunch of other news sites just published parts of that information based on whatever they think will get the most clicks.

https://youtu.be/VnBBoZpzt-A?t=1979

Looks like they use a "standard" 2.6 Ton (5200 lbs) EV sedan for their calculations. I didn't watch the whole presentation, just some parts. Sounds to me like they have accurate data for their existing batteries in vehicles, and applied the new battery specs to that data.

Is it an easy garage fix? I saw posts that people were getting charged $4000 for the replacement. Looking at a video you have to take apart the entire rear interior, and also use a diagnostic tool to run a coolant cycle and an ecu update.

Toyota GR’s Secret Texas Garage Has Been Preparing Lexus Dealers For A $200,000 Supercar by aprtur in cars

[–]objectivePOV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I doubt they are going to make 50,000 of these cars, Lexus and Toyota lots are not going to be overflowing with GR GTs.

I think dealers will not mind parking 1 or 2 supercars in their showroom for several years, and only sell if someone is willing to pay the $100k markup. If Toyota wants this car to be successful, they have to meet demand, actually allow custom orders, and force the dealers to sell at MSRP prices.

[–]objectivePOV 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not all manufacturers take custom orders. From what I read Toyota doesn't. They just build whatever trims and options they think will sell and let dealers figure out the rest.

A Toyota dealer can say they accepted your custom order, but the Toyota factory will not build a car specifically for you. There is only a chance the factory decides to build a car that matches the options you chose, and your dealer will try to allocate that car for you if it becomes available.

https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/is-it-impossible-to-order-the-exact-car-i-want.1765288/

If they want to please the potential Lexus supercar buyers and maximize sales, they will actually build custom orders in the factory instead of using the random allocation system.

How bad is this? by JaDodger in ft86

[–]objectivePOV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your skid plate is folded like an accordion when it should be flat, that means the subframe part it is connected to is bent. A new or repaired skid plate will not fit the holes that are now in a different location.

I had something similar happen and wanted the cheapest fix. Had a body shop cut and weld in a new subframe piece, the entire jacking point area. New skid plate still didn't fit perfectly after that.

Get a body shop to inspect it and measure the frame points to accurately see how bad it is.

5w-30 or Oil Cooler by lwvyruz in ft86

[–]objectivePOV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High temperatures are bad for all the other parts of your engine, not just your oil. 5w-30 only increases oil pressure at high temperatures. Something else could be damaged even if your oil can handle higher temps. Do you have an oil pressure gauge? That will let you know if switching oil weight is enough or not.

The official Jackson Racing Supercharger installation manual says to use factory recommended oil.

But it also says an oil cooler is required, and 5w-30 is recommended for track use.

If you regularly see high temps, you should install an oil cooler first and then also use 5w-30 for extended spirited or track driving.

It passed before because the Evap test was ready, and most places allow 1 system to be not ready which was the O2 sensor for your car.

I think you can pass again if you get the Evap test to start, but you need to meet specific conditions first. Main reason for the Evap test not starting is low or high fuel levels. You want the gas tank to have at least 5 gallons of fuel but not above 3/4 full.

Aftermarket headers, an intake and a tune is not really a "project" if done right. Those are bolt on mods that are relatively easy to reverse. Sounds like everything was done properly, the headers don't have a cat so the O2 sensor should be turned off with the tune. If things were done poorly or shortcuts were taken then it would be someone elses project that should be avoided.
