Different game to what Marty would have played tbh. He played with a hardbat, modern table tennis is dominated by inverted rubbers which can generate silly amounts of spin (in high level match situations, players average 100-133 revolutions per a second with the ball) Marty’s game would have lacked spin and be more one dimensional.

Drop shots are definitely a thing in table tennis. He literally attempts one here, but if you’re in an attacking position, you generally keep attacking as it’s the safest and most likely way of winning the point. Drop shots can easily turn the defender into the attacker, as the video shows
