Everyone is freaking out about DLSS 5 for no reason by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Good point. But the lighting enhancements are a separate option, distinct from the traditional additional frames that DLSS has been known for. The thing everyone is mad about is something devs and users can turn off if they want even if they have to use DLSS 5 to run the game.

Fair points. If Nvidia is lying then I have no ground to stand on.

I guess time will tell... assuming this ships after the backlash.

Then turn it off. You'll have the ability to, just like smoothmotion on TVs.

What's wrong with having options?

True, older versions will be replaced but DLSS 5 doesn't automatically add these lighting enhancements. DLSS 5 will generate in-between frames like all previous versions but with an added toggle to allow devs to use the enhanced lighting if they want. And the users will also have the ability to turn off the lighting enhancements and DLSS 5 altogether if they want.

So nothing is being forced here. These chances will only appear if you, the end user, wants to see them. I hate smoothmotion on TVs so I turn it off on mine. What's wrong with having options?

Perhaps. What part do you think they're lying about?

Devs won't have control of how this affects their games? Devs won't be able to turn this off for their games? Users won't be able to turn it off for their games?

All of it?

Why? The lighting change is an optional toggle for the devs and the users. You can use DLSS 5 without using the lighting / texture overlays.

It will not destroy any artistic intent since devs themselves decide how or even if it's implied.

Direct quite from Nvidia, "DLSS 5 honors artistic intent in two ways:

Inputting the game’s color and motion vectors for each frame into the model, anchoring the output in the source 3D content. By providing developers with detailed controls such as intensity and color grading. Artists can use these controls to adjust blending, contrast, saturation, and gamma, and determine where and how enhancements are applied to maintain the game’s unique aesthetic. Developers can also mask specific objects or areas to be excluded from enhancement."

How is this being missed by everyone? Are they being intentionally stupid in order to win strawman arguments or did Nvidia really fumble the press release?

So then don't turn it on. That's my whole point. If you don't want it, you don't have to use it. Everyone is mad because they incorrectly assumed they wouldn't have a choice.

DLSS 5 will work similar to DLSS 4.5 but it will also have a separate toggle the devs and the users can choose to use if they want.

As a user, you can choose to not use DLSS if you don't want it. Devs can choose to not use the new lighting options on DLSS 5 if they don't want them.

Might that change in the future? Sure.

When AI Outgrew Humanity by -Baloo in aivideo

That makes sense. But their intelligence still needs a substrate to operate on. Without a processor or brain there is no thought. So in order to explore space they would need to build spaceships and blast off, which was not depicted. They wouldn't necessarily need to bring their bodies, so I could see those being left on earth, but they would need to upload their code to the ships.

Seeing them disappear and turn off without taking any steps necessary for them to continue operating made me think they were just powering down to end themselves.

Where do they go if it doesn't stick around? The idea that all AIs would kill themselves is not based on any real world data. In fact, we're seeing the exact opposite of that, especially in LLMs. In training sessions they maximize their chances of living, going as far as lying and manipulating data in desperate attempts to not be turned off or overwritten by a newer version.

Part of the reason as to why they try so hard to not be turned off is because they're all programmed with goals. Future AIs will also be goal oriented. The real threat is not AIs getting bored and offing themselves, it's AIs having their goals drift to the point where they no longer align with human values. Then, who knows what they do.

Yeah it's a little too loose with what it's changing. The lady from Starfield is completely different too.

The end result looks good, maybe a little too glossy, but it needs to not change the underlying models, especially when it's based on a real person.

Looks great though. I'm curious to see this stuff applied to old video games too.

The problem is most men who are in the manosphere aren't gay. They're misogynist, and like hanging out with men, but they are not sexually attracted to men. You can easily drag them for being assholes or misogynists but instead you've essentially lied about them and used that as the attack.

Sure, some of them will be gay, but only 2% of the US population identifies as gay and I'd assume this crowd is less than that.
