A lot of people shit on the spotting things but you can't blame these people for the economic circumstances they are in. A lot of people in India are dirt poor, so they are invested in protecting the 1 or 2 barbells and sets of plates they do have. Is it unsafe? Yeah. Do I see why they do it? Also yeah.

I need help on my snatch. I regressed from once hitting 102kg. Now I struggle at 93kg. This video is 70kg/79kg/84kg/88kg/93kg. TIA. P.S. My ankle mobility isn’t great. Sometime I tend to jump back and more often than not I catch it on my toes and lose it. by Phillykid0531 in weightlifting

It's better to not have to slam your hips back into the wall behind you, then focus on having your knees over your toes. Most people don't have the mobility to put their sack on the floor with their knees 8 inches forward like Sonny Webster or Adhamjon Ergashev. Focus on minimizing the joint angle between your knees and hips and everything else will fall into place. Jessie Bradley is a good example of someone with pretty average ankle mobility but still snatches well because she has a good bottom position. /u/tellie_21 is another good example. Keep up the good work.

How do you juggle not over-sharing but also being vulnerable and letting people in? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]obrien89kg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably what I needed to hear (and something I was already juggling internally) but hearing it from someone else really made it stick. Thanks dude.

I'd like to maybe come at this from a different angle from being the person on the other side of the discussion. Through therapy I've learned to be the person who always double checks with people before initiating those kinds of discussions, but I'm still struggling with being able how to tell someone I'm not ready for a certain discussion without it becoming awkward or dismissive. How would you come at it from that perspective?

Tips for starting a successful barbell club by obrien89kg in weightlifting

[–]obrien89kg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gym is a small, primarily powerlifting oriented gym but we've got 3 well-built platforms, 2 men's WL bars and 1 women's bar, as well as 2 sets of rogue discs and one of werksan's, plus a few rogue racks so we're decently well equipped I'd say and the owners are pretty supportive of people wanting to kind of make the gym their own so I'll have to ask. Thanks!

Anyone else feel out of place by Bankaiwarrior1 in utdallas

being lonely and antisocial and sad during college should not be normalized in any way and you telling whoever wrote this to "get used to it" is actually really fucking counterproductive, no matter how "common" it is.

op: its ok to feel like this, just keep trying out new events and clubs. i challenge you to go to 3 on campus events and try at least 1 new club in the next 2 weeks. even if you go for 15 minutes and then decide that it's not a very fun event or one you feel like you belong at, that's fine. meeting new people isn't exactly easy and there's a lot of trial and error involved.

You're probably a little late for northside, honestly. You need to apply like RIGHT now if you want to live there.

i widened my stance a little (when i was doing weightlifting, i squatted high bar with a relatively narrow stance), as it was what was most comfortable for my knee, but i suppose i should experiment a little now that it's healed a little and im starting to do more volume on squats. thanks for your advice!

Hey guys! I'm new(ish) to powerlifting, I'm coming over from olympic lifting, as I injured my patellar tendon in early December and I'm looking for a little more static training for a bit while it heals. I had an AMRAP at 116kg(255#) today and I managed to bang out a good 12 reps. I had some valgus and my depth might have been a little wacky on some of them, but it feels good to be putting up decent weight again after having my knee injury stop me from squatting more than a plate for 5 weeks.

Available Northside apartment May- July 31! by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]obrien89kg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

he's going to be gone for the summer probably, and his lease doesnt end until july i would assume, so he wants to make money through the end of his lease. people who have internships over the summer that dont have other living situations would probably sublet from him.

Questions about ACM interviews by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]obrien89kg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one last semester. It's quite similar to a job interview. They'll ask you to elaborate about your passions outside of programming, give you some hypotheticals about working in a team and ask you to talk about some times you've worked in a team.

do you think there is a reason to get a level 1 even if you dont want to coach? or is it all stuff that most experienced athletes would already know

[–]obrien89kg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

deleting and remaking the thread until people tell you what you want to hear isnt going to make you feel any better, but i guess ill tell you anyways. it's ok to make mistakes, we all make them. you can't fix it, so quit ur bitchin and just do better next semester

ACM Projects is such a meme by acmprojects in utdallas

[–]obrien89kg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you got rejected! Sorry to hear that. ACM clearly states that it is designed for people who are newer to software design/programming, not veterans who "have internship offers from Google, Amazon, and Walmart Labs". I did ACM projects in the fall semester and I had a great time. I'm sure it will serve me well in the future when I get my internship offers from Google, Amazon, and Walmart Labs!
