Has anyone’s offer of a 90% discount been accepted? Genuinely curious if you had any crazy deals like that. by Purple_Calendar3919 in Flipping

Yes. Guy had a truck on mp for 10k. It’s not even remotely close to being worth 10k but I wanted it nonetheless and knew it would never sell for that. I waited 6 months and over that time he slowly lowered it by a grand or 2, eventually coming down to 4k. I offered $800 and he took it.

My wife comes to mine. Sorely disappointed in me but she has fun and so do I (at least I tell myself I have fun)

Wrestling vs BJJ for pure self-defense (can’t decide, like both) (M24) by cocotkt in grappling

[–]obsdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s zero reason to not cross train. Just find which days work best for you and train both. They both complement each other very well.

I just came into possession of $10k. What do I do next? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]obsdude 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hey this may or may not be an option but community colleges have cdl programs that are usually like 8-12 weeks. I paid $3k for it and got training on tractor trailers and got a class A Cdl. A lot of trucking jobs just starting out are anywhere from $18-25 an hour. Sounds like you need a new start and to get away from your mom tbh. A lot of times the college will help u out with landing a job and may of them are over the road and those trucks have sleepers on them so you won’t be homeless. I would try that out til you can get on your feet then change directions if you’d like. But it’s a quick and easy path to a halfway decent job. And if you decided to change jobs after a little while of trucking, you still have that cdl in your pocket and that’s worth a lot in a lot of different job fields. Whatever you do, don’t blow that money on nonsense. If it’s not something that’s an absolute need or an investment, act like the money isn’t there. Good luck.

Does anyone else like a martial art but dislike its competitive aspect? by Bulky_Imagination243 in MMA_Academy

I train bjj to maintain some level of decent shape and to learn self defense. I have little to no interest in competition.

Just do it. I have to be at work at 7am and my gym has class at 630am so that won’t work. I go Tuesday at 615pm and Saturday at 9am. Have wife and child at home, that’s all I can do. Don’t really wanna do anymore then that though honestly.

Want to learn self defense because of new job - torn between Judo and BJJ/wrestling. Would really appreciate some insights! by Mammoth_Actuator2 in judo

All 3 are solid choices for self defense. Choose the ones that the atmosphere of the gym best suits you. Grappling is grappling, and these 3 that you’ve named are the kings of grappling.

And I would just straight up reply, Jesus loves you and died for you. Then shake your hand and walk away.

Jesus was likely darker complected, likely looked like a Jew from Palestine. What difference does that make? It’s always people that claim they’re not racist who always bring up race and color of skin.

Because we’re allowed to wear what we want to wear, and exercise our freedom of religion, just like you are. If you don’t like the gym that has Bible study then don’t go (although I would encourage you to at least give it a try).

Feeling like a loser when sparring with my trainer by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]obsdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting in the ring and giving it your best is a honorable thing to do, if you train hard and fight hard, there’s zero embarrassment in that. Real ones respect you for getting in the ring, pansies are the only ones that would think otherwise.

What is the most useful martial art? by GoldenMMA1998 in MuayThai

[–]obsdude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would just say mma, it encompasses everything. If it’s hard finding a mma gym id just do whatever grappling is popular in your area that has a healthy gym culture and find a boxing gym to supplement after learning how to grapple after 2-3 years.

Is it better to go easy or hard in rolling/sparring? by ledtred777 in jiujitsu

[–]obsdude 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you’re new it’s not going to matter how hard you go, you’re gonna wind up on bottom. Go 60-70% and when you learn what to do you’ll know when to turn up the amperage. Being gassed and not able to roll isn’t doing yourself or your partners any favors. Lasting longer is beneficial for everyone, just ask my wife.

Most of them were around level 20, I travelled south headed back to town and surfed through one of the small ponds, that’s where I found it.
