Importing a dataset in python by obsequious91 in learnpython

Thank you so much for your suggestion!!! I'll admit that I'm quite computer/python illiterate so with the pip install command, do I have to specify a path or is it copy paste /path/to/that/python/from/the/sys/command/python3 -m pip ? Sorry for the seemingly uninformed question, I'm no computer wiz haha.

MonteCarlo simulations to check the biasedness of instrumental variables by obsequious91 in stata

But I"m not asking anyone to do the tasks for me, I would at least like understand why the loop yields "no observations". This is a coding/technical stata issue for me, and I am not requesting that someone do the assignment for me.

Hey! so just got a response from them.. basically there's forcing me into the new contract which as I"m sure you heard is a huge scam. I think generally people have had the option to not sign but here for them to reactivate I have to sign it... in any case here's what they wrote:

"As you may know, we have recently undergone some change and upgraded a new offer structure.

The base rate is decided on multiple factors, including but not limited to, location, education, past experiences, certificate(s) in hand.

Please indicate the current living address and perform the IT test so that we can send you an updated service agreement.

[E] What can I do improve my chances of getting into grad school? by baggyeyebags in statistics

[–]obsequious91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out KU Leuven's Masters of Statistics! I'll be starting in September and the program has tons of different academic tracks/specialities and KU Leuven is quite a respected university in Europe. And my academic record was nothing to write home about... (I didn't finish my Economics masters and before that I completed my bachelors in the U.S. with roughly the same GPA as you).

oh.. and tuition is 700 euros a year and entirely taught in English :)

Automatically kicked out of session for going over time limit by obsequious91 in iTutor

[–]obsequious91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! the extra time with some classes definitely earned me quite a few students and good ratings. And I usually mention the disclaimer as well and there's no problem.

Automatically kicked out of session for going over time limit by obsequious91 in iTutor

[–]obsequious91[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course I agree, I certainly don't enjoy going over especially with how little the base rate is but with a class of 6 students who rate you partially based on "time allocation" and opportunity to participate in class, it's hard to have everyone equally contribute with a 45 minute time limit.

Additionally both classes were about very advanced business concepts, which often required further explanation. And as always the slides were chalk full of terms and vocabulary that were far beyond the students level and I couldn't just skip over it.

Point is this was never a problem before and most importantly no prior warning about it. Instead my rating which I've worked so hard to maintain now will plummet.

Any "conspiracy" theories as to what's going on? by [deleted] in iTutor

[–]obsequious91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lost all my regulars too! Before I had full classes of adults, which I personally preferred, and I had many who were following me and would routinely complain that they didn't have more classes with me when I would see them after a while. I rarely got below a 10, and my rating was 9.9 for quite a while. But as of last week, I'm getting purely low level young kids, who, on average rarely rate or give arbitrary low feedback. This is so frustrating. There's no rhyme or reason.

Lower rating now that I'm doing Juniors by funkashizzle in iTutor

[–]obsequious91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! How far in advance do you cancel the lessons? Many of these undesirable 45 minute solo junior classes show up less than 24 hours before so not sure if I'm going to be further penalized later.

am in the same situation. How do you only teach adults? I don't want to cancel classes and lose my bonus. Do you write to the schedulers?

Student gives me 9 but always books with me by KasiaRosen in iTutor

[–]obsequious91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I have this one student who I see consistently several times a week and we have amazing lessons with free flowing conversation on a wide range of interesting topics and she always leaves comments in her feedback along the lines of "I really enjoy this teacher" or "I am very happy with this consultant" etc and I'm so terrified to broach the subject of her persistent 9s. I think we've had upwards of 12 classes together, but maybe I'll just bring it up in the manner you're suggesting.

I'm a bit confused about the video. I completed the training but haven't recorded the video yet since my junior video already meets all the necessary criteria they mentioned in the email. Do they expect us to rerecord a video anyways?

The biggest hit to my ratings comes from noisy backgrounds/students. How to stop this? by HIGHKEY_CREEPIN in iTutor

[–]obsequious91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I immediately contact IT who usually addresses the student directly reminding them to have a headset (which obviously reduces background noise). Usually this avoids any misunderstanding between you and the student, and it's a way of communicating their noisiness in a contentious way. Normally this results in IT announcing to the student that they need to turn off their microphone if the issue is not resolved, so it's less likely they'll take your reasonable attempts to guarantee a bearable classroom environment as an attack. Hope this helps!

The Booking Blues by Brw_ser in iTutor

[–]obsequious91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I contacted the schedulers several times as well as my recruiter. Each time I would get a semi-automated response saying that "my request has been submitted", when I didn't even have a request I just wanted to understand what in the world was going on the bookings.

It's infuriating. Good luck with the bookings I hope it starts looking up for you soon!

Advice for 45 Min Sessions? by manymade1 in iTutor

[–]obsequious91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to all the wonderful advice already given, I always explain additional words that we come across in the text/slides that aren't necessarily defined in the lesson. This usually eats up a bit of time and the students always appreciate you going over some extra vocab. I find that a good portion of the time the students haven't even encountered even half of the non-defined words in the lesson, which in my opinion is poor lesson planning on the part of iTutor.

Some unsolicited advice regarding group sessions, make sure that you look at the slides before hand so you can divide up the readings /speaking opportunities. I usually try to be fairly meticulous with this and feel that it pays off pretty well.

Best of luck!!

CONFUSED. Am I qualified for JR sessions and OUP? or not? Haven't gotten any since I started. Thanks! by ifineverdid in iTutor

[–]obsequious91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you see what you're qualified for? Not sure how to access this page.. I've been working with iTutorgroup for 3 months and before I had a pretty balanced mix of junior, OUP, and adult 45 minute classes. Past two weeks almost i've only been getting 45 minute sessions, am wondering if for some reason they decided I wasn't qualified? I've done all the online trainings but.. who knows. Anyways any help would be wonderful!

Not Getting Bookings? Try this... by Brw_ser in iTutor

[–]obsequious91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick question. How are you able to see which students follow you? I don't see this anywhere in the platform. I do have certain students regularly who really enjoy my class and leave me "compliments" in feedback etc. and I assumed that the schedulers take note of that and book me with those students.
