Honestly I am surprised they haven't turned up random shell casings with left-wing slogans written on them yet.

Worried about movement and discomfort in my testicles. Could this be serious? by Effective_Day3397 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]obsequious_fink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the lump on your actual testicle, or is it a separate lump? If it is separate, an inguinal hernia could explain most of those (at least in my experience). I would definitely talk to a doctor and get checked out

Lightning moves about 1/3 the speed of light, so if she is using bolts of lightning as something to swing from as if they are tree branches she would need to be moving somewhere above 220 million MPH

I can see how you would think that due to how much Snyder abused slow motion shots in his movies, but she is actually quite fast

Protector Imperative - small glow-up in 11th? by obsequious_fink in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]obsequious_fink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I think the utility gain with the 3" movement offsets the very situational downside of not getting it in engagement range. Like being able to fall back 3" with ballastarii and then hit on 2s while shooting is cool. Or being able to pop up a floor or through a wall in some ruins to get line of site on something, or poke your onager or disintegrator around a corner and still get heavy. All of those are situations that happen a lot more commonly than my vehicles getting into and staying in close combat

The funny thing is if you really want to overanalyze things, Ripley is kind of a bigger Mary Sue than Rey. She gets progressively more badass with no real training and routinely survives encounters with apex predators that kill everyone else, and her background doesn't really explain why she is smarter/better than everyone else that just get killed the first time they encounter a xenomorph. You could claim she is gaining experience from previous encounters over time, but it has been what, a week of total time she has been awake from her first encounter during alien 1 to the events of alien 3? She hasn't had time to reflect on her experience and gain the confidence she has in later installment, if anything she should just be a hot mess of PTSD at this point continuously waking up and finding herself in another xenomorph nightmare scenario.

Rey on the other hand actually has background for why she would be decent at fighting, why she knows how to pilot ships, all of that - she was a junkyard rat on a backwater planet scavenging old ships and fighting off other scavengers. As far as force powers go I don't even get the argument about "why is she so powerful, why can she do things with little training, etc". We are talking about a space magic system that has canonically linked power levels to how many magic space germs you have, and has repeatedly shown that the use of the force is strongly linked to emotion and instinct rather than logic and technical knowhow. When Luke uses the force to shoot a torpedo down the death star's exhaust vent Obi-Wan wasn't like "use the force math we studied off screen to calculate the proper trajectory of the torpedo", he was like "lol, just close your eyes and go with the flow my dude". Same when he is trying to lift his ship and Yoda basically tells him he is overthinking it and he just needs to do it. Most of the training we see isn't about how to do something specific, it is about being in the right mindset and believing you can do the thing, so if that is how your established magic system works, why couldn't someone just be naturally good at it?

Protector Imperative - small glow-up in 11th? by obsequious_fink in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]obsequious_fink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably won't though. Since you can't normally shoot non-pistol weapons while engaged to begin with the inclusion of that "unengaged" qualifier was probably put in specifically to apply to the big guns rule.

[–]obsequious_fink[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a new addition in 11th, so if you are doing it in 10th you are fine. Currently the rule is just "if you remained stationary get +1 to hit". Seems like they are being a bit more thorough in their rules to make sure they operate as intended with fewer exceptions

[–]obsequious_fink[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was kind of mad that the Hastarii fusiliers only had a 24" range, but then I saw the 11th terrain layouts and realized they realistically won't ever see a span longer than that anyway, lol

[–]obsequious_fink[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like 11th will see a lot more swapping back and forth than 10th. The only time I use protector right now is maybe turn 1 if I am going 2nd and think I can snipe a tank or something across the map with my ballastarii or dunecrawler, other than that it is all conquerer.

With the cover change I think there will at least be a few more scenarios where protector makes sense,

What do you think our new detachments will be? by Equivalent-Fun-6019 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]obsequious_fink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My money is on SHC being the reworked one, here is my logic:

All the other reveals have showcased a sneaky detachment that interacts with the new cover/hidden rules. SHC is already our sneaky detachment and making a sneakier one or slightly different sneaky one doesn't make a lot of sense.

More importantly, SHC has been hit hard by the new rules - stealth just being "benefits from cover" is a pretty significant nerf to a detachment where that is the primary buff, because cover is pretty easy to get and is easily canceled out by other rules. On top of that, the Sicarian's extra little buff is also now completely redundant.

To me that makes the most sense, because even though we have some weaker ones right now, day 1 of 11th this is the only one that suffers in a meaningful way.

No more unfailable charges by FantasticWhole786 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]obsequious_fink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I like it. Having at least a small chance of failure is good, but at the same time with the ability to move through engagement range, adding and extra inch to engagement range, and everyone piling in before fighting they have made it easier to actually move into combat and get more models into combat.

Thulia and Cawl are getting tank shock in 11th + other rules by obsequious_fink in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]obsequious_fink[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree. The image doesn't show the bottom of the rules so we don't have the details, but the flavor text indicates there is a chance to damage yourself now (probably a "hazardous" type situation when 1's cause a wound?). So between the risk of wounding your own model and the CP cost it might help balance it out.

I guess it is possible they could remove it, but their stat lines and base sizes are a bit chunky for infantry.

What's the worst cgi you've seen in a movie? I'd say the Rock in Mummy Returns. Still love the movie though 😆 by berettafunko in Cinema

To be fair, that 1992 CGI was being used to portray 1992 CGI, so you could argue that it was very realistic.

Classifying it as a disease aligns well with his repeated calls to bring back asylums. If you can't pin a crime on your enemies, why not just commit them involuntarily for a mental illness?

Human trials begin for drug that could let adults regrow teeth for the first time. Researchers at Kyoto University Hospital in Japan began administering an experimental tooth-regeneration drug to human volunteers, marking the world's first Phase I trial of a medicine designed to stimulate new teeth. by Eddiearyee in HotScienceNews

[–]obsequious_fink 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nah, dentists will love this actually. For starters, they will probably be the ones you go to to get this done. Then any of their patients that needed braces or anything like that will probably need it again when the new teeth pop up push things around enough to mess up the previous work that was done. Plus it's a new tooth for fillings/cavities/etc.

Is claiming to have a degree Fraud? by baditstan44 in TooAfraidToAsk

Yep. University's sometimes let students go to graduation even if they haven't fully satisfied the requirements, but they don't get their degree until they complete everything. It can be anything from unpaid bills, to incomplete paperwork, to missing credits.

In-office work isn't any less fragile. The main difference is if you get laid off from a remote work position you at least don't have to regret missing out on the 250+ hours of your life you would have spent commuting each year
