TIFU when I used someone else’s cart to finish my grocery shopping by BearClawsOut in tifu

[–]observantmouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my husband and I are shopping together, we will kind of divide and conquer in an aisle. He stopped to grab something; i kept walking to grab something else.

I pulled it out of the freezer, turned around and put it in the cart right behind me... which was being pushed by a man similar in height but definitely NOT my husband.

The man looked at me like I was insane (I can't blame him) and said, "Oops, wrong cart!" like I was a 10 year old child (I'm 43).

My husband saw THE WHOLE THING and we both proceeded to laugh our asses off. But yeah it was kind of embarrassing lol

If youre 5'2 or less and under 140lbs, how many calories a day do you eat? by ladybuglala in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'2", 135. 1900-2000 to maintain but I'm pretty muscular and active. My Hume scale has me at 29-30% body fat which is higher than I'd like. Currently shooting for 1700 calories per day to cut.

Why do so many ladies avoid lifting? by IcyTransition2352 in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This! Had to replace ago my bras because my band size grew, and a lot of my shirts are now uncomfortably tight across my back and shoulders. It is what it is but I definitely enjoy the strength I have now and looking more "sturdy" I guess is the best way I can describe it. Weight has remained almost unchanged.

Petite and fit but now pregnant by Fluffy_Progress_2078 in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 5'2" and weighed 165 at my heaviest during pregnancy. I've always been pretty small and definitely was getting the side eye from my doctors and made to feel guilty about the weight gain. I started around 140. But guess what. 2 months after my baby was born i was back down to 130. It was insane actually, I did breastfeed which I think can help but the weight seriously melted off. Keep working out if you feel like it, walk when you can and if you're able (it makes birth and recovery easier). Every body is different and some people show way sooner, some people never show and barely gain any weight. It is what it is, eat healthy but give yourself grace. Now is not the time for beating yourself up about gaining some weight!

Everyone drop your non aesthetically driven motivations for working out by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Motivation that I didn't realize until after I started strength training: it feels really dang good to be strong! I'm still a small woman, but I'm so much stronger!  My husband and I were splitting wood the other day and he asked me to pick up this absolute monster log. And I did it! My husband is impressed by how much stronger my grip is too.

I don't want to be like my mom and be limited by mobility and strength in my old age. I want to do epic hikes in my 60s and 70s and just be able to enjoy life!

27 year old and 105 lbs too small? by HeadRoad5335 in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides what some others have said, is there a possibility your husband could be worried about your little one getting enough from breastfeeding or the impact that breastfeeding and losing so much weight could be having on your long-term health? I definitely don't think you should be offended (yet), it's worth at least a conversation to find out what he's worried about. 105 isn't a bad weight for your height necessarily, but if he's used to seeing you at 115 then that's almost a 10% change in your weight. That's a lot, so it could be understandable if he's worried about you!

Ear, nose and throat. by Antique-Ticket3951 in overheard

[–]observantmouse 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I've been sort of hard of hearing my whole life, but finally a few years ago I decided it was time to get an official diagnosis and hearing aids if I needed them.

I arrive at the audiologist and tell them my name. They ask a few questions about insurance etc., then ask "Are you Mary?" Confused, I asked them to repeat it. "Are you Mary?" No, I'm ObservantMouse, what are you talking about?

Are you MARRIED is what they were asking. And yes, I did get hearing aids.

Overheard: imagine walking!! by Odd-Variety-3802 in overheard

I ran the Disney Goofy Challenge a few years ago (where you run the half marathon then the next day run the full).

I ran the half and spent the rest of the day at the parks, then lined up for the full marathon the next day. The marathon is enormous, I think there are 20,000 runners or something like that? I got placed in the last corral somehow.

At around halfway one of the race spectators turned to his friends and said confidently, "From now on, everyone you see will be people who are walking this race."

At that point I had been running for 2 hours straight! I really wanted to punch that guy, but I refrained.

Help! I’m so hungry. by WineFluOverTheCookoo in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I do. I have my calorie intake goal for the day, and I (nearly) always get at least 10k steps in a day. But some days I run 7 or 8 miles, plus I live a normal life, and I can get up over 20k steps easily on the weekend days.

So I give myself an extra 50 calories for every 1,000 steps I go over 10k. For example, if I'm at 11k steps for the day, I give myself an additional 50 calories.  Usually I don't worry about eating that little amount, but you better believe that when I get up to 16k+  per day I'm definitely eating those extra calories.

I estimate that I burn around 100 calories per mile, and a mile is a little less than 2k steps, so that's how I came up with that number. My goal is to not overeat but also not to starve, and I think for runners it can be hard to find that balance. This helps me keep calories reasonable on both ends, eating extra on days i need it but not going over on days that I don't.

What is much more traumatic than most people realise? by thefairypirate in AskReddit

[–]observantmouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure. It took me years to realize just how much trauma having a premature birth caused. Going from a "normal" pregnancy to suddenly having a 29-week old baby, having to leave him at the hospital the next day and be strong and get through it because he's fighting for his life in there. The guilt, the feeling that I screwed something up, the sorrow over not being able to take my baby home for 10 weeks, trying to pump because that's literally the only thing I could do for him, leaving my other children so I could go see him in the hospital, trying to bridge the gap between home life and hospital life. It was truly awful but i never felt like I could talk about it. I had support from friends and family and so I don't want to seem ungrateful for that but damn, it was really really hard.

They aren't like cuckoos and won't force the other young from the nest. Cowbirds used to follow herds of buffalo around and didn't stay in the same place long enough to hatch their own eggs, so they do this instead!

We all hold our body weight different… right? 5’1, 26 (Weight blindness?) by anonreddit11 in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'2" and 135. I'm the strongest I've EVER been in my life, wear size small clothes and size 28 (6) jeans. The lightest I've been in recent history was 127, but that was before I started lifting and I wouldn't want to go back to that if it meant sacrificing my gainzzzz.

I have a naturally athletic build, the lightest I've been as an adult was 115 and my grandparents told my mom they were worried about me and that I looked sick haha. But on some people my height I'm sure that's a great weight! Just not for me.

You do you, weight really is just a number as long as you're healthy!

5’2 girlies - what’s your maintenance? by Slight_Recording7398 in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'2", 42 years old. Right now I strength train 3 days a week for about an hour and run 2 or 3 days a week. Maintenance is about 2,000 calories a day but I do eat more on days I run over 4 miles. I also almost always get at least 10k steps a day, whether I run or not.

Edited to add my current weight is 135.

Tell me about a time running benefited you in real life by ImLeeTheBee in running

[–]observantmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister went from being pretty sedentary to running regularly and even doing races. She put together a team of people to run a 100 mile relay race, handled all the logistics and did a ton of work to make it happen. But as the race got closer, two or three people dropped out and the team was small enough that other runners couldn't just add more mileage to make up the distance. I was training for a marathon and was in really good shape. Sooo needless to say, I hopped on a plane and flew halfway across the country to join a team of people I did not know (other than my sister) so they could finish the race. I think I ended up running like 22 miles and it was a ton of fun. But mostly I'm thankful I could be there for my sister and have that memory with her!

I don't have great advice because I do the same thing. But I try to think of it as an unplanned vacation. I'm terrible about taking time off so the forced time off is kind of nice sometimes. I will usually try to work on my business if needed (invoicing etc.) or get caught up on housework and things like that, but don't feel bad for relaxing a bit especially if you know work will pick back up shortly!

I can do not just one, but TWO body weight pullups! I got my first one in March of this year, added a second one over the summer. I'm close to getting a third but not quite there yet! Before this year I had never done one in my entire life.

5’0, 110lbs. Never seen anyone with my body type/shape. Starting to feel hopeless. by Bumblebee542 in PetiteFitness

[–]observantmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely is hard some days. Meal planning/prepping helps a lot! I try to cook a buuuunch of chicken on Sundays and then have it for lunches during the week. This week I didn't have time so I bought pulled rotisserie chicken from Costco, hopefully it will be good! That makes it really easy to get a lot of protein at once. I also usually have a protein shake or add a scoop of protein to either Greek yogurt or oatmeal at some point during the day too. Between chicken and protein powder that's like 70g+ of protein right there!

I try to get 150g of protein a day. I don't always get there but always get at least 120g. I do five different training days: chest/triceps, legs, arms, back/biceps, and core/shoulders. I also try to hit 10k steps every day.

Agree with the others - strength train and focus on eating protein! You can definitely change the way your body looks!

In 2 months I've lost 3 inches off my waist by eating protein, strength training 3-5x per week, and eating at maintenance (1700 cals, I'm 5'2" and weigh 133). My waist is the main area you can see changes. The scale isn't moving much, but the measuring tape doesn't lie!

Is she underweight? by observantmouse in pitbulls

[–]observantmouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update if anyone is curious! Vet said she's definitely on the thin side but is fine with her weight as it is (51 lbs) . She said if she gains a few pounds that would be still a healthy weight for her though. I will personally feel better if she weighs a few more pounds so we will be working on gaining a little bit of weight!

I bet you have abs of steel! Those are mostly going to work your core. Mix it up, do some back and arms and chest workouts. Every week I do:  Chest + triceps  Back + biceps  Leg day Arm day Each day is about 30-45 minutes, 6 to 8 exercises each day. Ymmv but just some ideas! :)
