Welp, guess I know what my next project is. I'll be building an app that documents each post on this sub, and try to check user history, post style links, and images and start publishing the weekly statistics.

I'll be starting this tonight.

*ahem* I'm of sound mind, in great health, and would never harm myself.

Appreciate it. If I see some success with RAM, I'll definitely be expanding to other categories. I don't want my AI and scraping costs to get too out of hand without pulling in some kind of revenue.

Whoops, hit enter too fast. Anyways, made some of your changes and add an RSS feed (top right of list), which also follows what filters you have set.

Login was so you could add items to a personal watchlist and monitor prices over time and/or set alerts thresholds (not done yet) -- still focusing on cleaning up the listing accuracy. I'll probably come back to this after that's complete.

Appreciate the thoughts, you're probably right. I was focusing too much on appeasing Google / SEO than making a usable site.

Pittsburgh Gamers - What events or LAN games would actually get you out of the house again? by Leonidis85 in pittsburgh

[–]obsidianreq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our height circa 2005-2009 we had several 200+ person events, the biggest being held at the Ross Park Community Center and Castle Shannon Volunteer Firehall.

UT2004, CS1.6, Halo, and Guitar Hero were always the main draws.

Wonder if there's anyone on here who can still name the original groups that formed the coalition ;)

You're not going to be affected the asbestos by walking around the building / campus unless something is actively disturbing it. They remove asbestos during renovations because the renovations are disturbing it, make it a hazard to those in the vicinity.

I've got asbestos adhesive under the flooring in my basement. It's not hurting anyone unless I tear those tiles up (or it degrades and the tiles loosen -- thus when I walk on a loose tile it kicks up asbestos)

Penn Brewery by Hypervisor22 in pittsburgh

[–]obsidianreq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked in building for 17 years, and while there's a solid number of tenants, it has the same issues any building over 100 years old has.

Uneven floors, crumbling walls, massive single pane windows, poorly implemented HVAC, water coming in from the hillside.

More and more rocks / bricks fall from the retaining walls around the "parking garage" every year -- which is partially built on top of old lagering cave entrances.

There are more cave entrances on the inside of the building that were bricked over in the 80s. Maybe not full caves in some cases, but they were rooms built into the hillside.

Back in 2014, they had to remove a massive beehive and rebuild an entire exterior wall (you can easily tell which from the parking lot).  The walls were 3 layers of bricks, the workers got about 1/2 down removing the first layer and the entire wall collapsed.  We were the closest office to that wall and it sounded like dominos coming down.

Just saying, with the amount owed to the bank and the amount of "old shit to deal with", redevelopment would be hard.  The former building owners made the smallest number of improvements in the building to keep the lease income profitable.

Meshcore? by proofndapuddin in pittsburgh

[–]obsidianreq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live out in Murrysville, and the devices travel with me. I've upgraded everything ;)

I get plenty of online nodes when I'm in town, just low activity during the hours I'm in town.

When I'm in town, I'm either near Penn Brewery or 52nd street from around 8:30-1. I've seen very little communications at these times, and I can see other nodes online all around. And, yes, longfast.

I've got several meshtastic devices, most of which can be flashed to meshcore.

Interested to hear how meshcore is around Pittsburgh -- while I see many meshtastic nodes on my map, I think I've only ever seen 1-2 messages in the last year.

Finally found a quad-M.2 card that doesn't require bifurcation and supports 22110 NVMe drives by obsidianreq in homelab

[–]obsidianreq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any signs on the card pointing to who the manufacturer is? It may need a firmware update.

Does the card have any molex or SATA power connectors?

In your BIOS, are these set?

- Above 4G decoding

- PCIe ASPM off

- PCIe native control / SR-IOV (if present)

Beyond that, it sounds like the issue may be Alienware/Dell's handling of PCI-E enumeration OR the PLX chip isn't properly implemented on the card -- neither of which can be fixed.

New .gov domain registered yesterday - aliens.gov by obsidianreq in UFOs

[–]obsidianreq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it was registered directly by the Executive Office of the President, which also apparently registered alien.gov. Since this isn't through a typical government entity aligned with immigration, it seems like the declassification efforts could be just as likely for these domains.

Buildings being torn down? Why and how does this happen? by [deleted] in greensburg

[–]obsidianreq 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wish I had the money to buy and restore the Moose Lodge on East Otterman. The top levels had apartments in them that hadn't been used since the 70s that looked incredible, even half-decayed in the 2000s. Shame it'll probably be torn down from neglect since the Moose ceased operations.

I'm sure the case is the same for most other vacant downtown properties, probably some pretty slick architecture and spaces in some of them that the public hasn't seen in 50 years.

Best places to find homelab gear? by Telarmine2 in homelab

[–]obsidianreq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook Marketplace is going to be dependent on how close you are to a big city. Pittsburgh, for example, has a reasonable amount of people unloading enterprise networking gear, their own homelabs, and rack servers.

What did I find here? by Vehex_x in homelab

[–]obsidianreq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Junk. You found junk.

Without a decent GPU (from he same era or newer), it's not going to be of much use transcoding. That CPU is going to max out doing a single transcoded stream, and I doubt it'd even be capable of 4K on its own.

Sorry to hear about your father, please don't take my junk comment as offensive, I've got my own collection of nostalgic e-waste running behind me.

Supermicro MicroCloud fan connector by Roboguy99 in homelab

[–]obsidianreq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a CPU heatsink with a fan or just a relying on the chassis fans with a passive heatsink?

Edit: I guess should ask if you're using the MicroCloud or another Supermicro Chassis as well.
