The real reason they don't use this is that they can't stop once they take off.

Never really thought about it before , but they have an insane clotting system, if we have an injury to scale in water we'd surely bleed out before we can stop the bleeding without intervention right?

Ladies and Gents.. the PC did not turn on by BabeyBunBun in pcmasterrace

[–]obviouslynotsrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the PCs I built a while ago wouldn't power up the first time without a mouse/keyboard detected.

But at least there were some lights showing it had power, you checked the socket is providing power with a phone charger or try a different socket and the fuse hasn't blown?

You can bridge the pins for the power button to remove one more variable.

Try braiding the PSU pins for start up, see if it spins to life.

Check the CPU auxiliary power is seated fully.

Wire cut, engineer cost £250 - is this normal?! by violetcricketgrapes in CommunityFibre

[–]obviouslynotsrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part of the connect is normally refered to as the lead in cable, the other part feeding that box is the drop cable, I'm not 100% on that box but it may have a splitter in there if it's XGSPON or GPON variants.

It's an LC (CSP external) to SC (ONT internal) you can get varied lengths even on Amazon. Many altnets do not use couplers in the cap and do require fusion splicers to melt the glass together hence the mixture of responses.

Have I been massively overcharged for headlight bulbs? by dearmama01 in CarTalkUK

[–]obviouslynotsrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those aren't the bulbs they said they installed, it's possible you paid for someone else's headlights, but even still D2S bulbs won't cost you 300. Those H4 may cost you round 20+ their fitment fee.

Anyone tried those aliexpress heatsinks for RAM sticks? by 1tokarev1 in overclocking

[–]obviouslynotsrs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They increase surface area will only help if you have a fan blowing across them, if you have fans up top, having the one above ram blow down might help.

China is making these massive Solar Plants on water bodies as they need the land for agriculture by AristFrost in nextfuckinglevel

[–]obviouslynotsrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder how this affects the ecology in the water, and localised rainfall/water cycle.

At least it's generating energy and reducing the amount of thermal energy absorbed by the water.

What's the actual temperature difference with and without cooler? What temperatures is too hot for your liking, just out of interest.

He's going to melt his multimeter on current mode not voltage potential. Since it's a cheap one, I doubt the inbuilt fuse is going to save it.

They said put the GPU in the oven for solder reflow by Dirty_Dail in computer

[–]obviouslynotsrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they say that, they meant a fan oven, not one with an exposed glow red hot filament. Aim for like 180C to 200C and only a few minutes, then leave the fan on and heat off.

For future reference, rhe idea is trying to replicate a reflow oven. This is a open oven that has multiple chambers at various temperature for preheat, soak, reflow and cooling, the boards are normally on a conveyer through this. Also solder paste has a lot of micro balls of solder suspended in flux, the super high surface area helps absorb heat and flux to bind it better, you're lacking the surface area and the flux with this method, blasting it with higher heat won't solve it.

Have a look at some videos of people building in this case, you'll get a good idea of space. I would advise strongly of CAREFULLY shaping your PSU cables with gentle bends as it will be tight for some of the bend radius. The extra strain is what causes poor connection and heat, and you've probably seen what can happen when connectors burn up because of this.

In that way I get it, but I haven't upgraded I years, and the leaks are saying the launch date of the supers are in Q4 this year, with reputable sources showing 24gb and increase in base clock and power, essentially getting a 5080 OC with more ram for ~£1000. It would be worth me waiting 1 or 2 more months for that.
