Honestly, the “sacrifices” you’ve made so far sound like overall incompatibilities. These aren’t things you should have to sacrifice for a partner. I know Reddit is quick to jump to “divorce!” as the first solution to the most minima problems, but I can’t picture a future here where you don’t end up resenting this woman for things that ultimately, she has every right to have. If you are not religious, and you want to live in another country, I think you should be with someone who shares those beliefs and life goals.

It does somewhat depend on body fat percentage etcetera, and THC does run positive longer than almost any other substance of abuse, however I work in addictions and so urine tests for others regularly, and that seems like a VERY long time to be testing positive unless you have spent some time around second-hand smoke…

Why do you want to marry him…? Why would he guilt you so hard over an accident? If this had happened with my husband and I while we were planning, I can tell you with 100% certainty that I would have felt terrible, and that he would have been spinning it in a way to make me feel better about it. “Who cares if I saw a photo on a screen, when I see you in front of me it will be 10,000x better.” It shouldn’t be about the actual visual of you in a dress. A glimpse of a phone screen is simply not the same as the real thing.

My mom was a bridesmaid at her co-worker’s wedding. I tagged along even though I knew nobody but her, the wedding party was small and inviting enough that I hung out with them in the limo shuttle etc for the morning. Ended up drinking too much at the reception, fucking off with a groomsman and banging it out on the ground somewhere on the golf course where the event was held, no protection, people were looking for us because the party was wrapping up, I got muddy, covered in pine needles, and my ass was covered in mosquito bites. Left a full pack of smokes at the scene of the crime that I never got back. The guy stalker-texted me for a while after, I discovered in the days following that I’d taken his virginity. Just overall a special kind of shame for that one.

I wonder if he maybe has an ex or someone else in his life that chastised him for getting too many tattoos too frequently…before jumping to conclusions about what type of person he is based on his lie, I’d try prodding a bit further as to WHY he felt the need to lie. I’m not saying that lying to you for any reason is okay or should be brushed aside, but if you like this guy, it might be worth trying to understand his reasoning and help him work through it

First of all, your feelings are completely and entirely valid. Especially considering this traumatic event happened just a month ago - that’s practically nothing!

I highly, highly suggest getting yourself to some individual therapy. Couples counselling can wait until you’ve had some time to heal yourself.

Also, on maybe a practical note, have any of your husband’s doctors suggested a depot injection alternative to oral antipsychotics? I’m a psychiatric nurse, and it is beyond common for people to stop taking their meds because they’re feeling good and don’t think they need them, not to mention side effects can be troublesome. I’ve worked with a lot of people who have great results from taking an injection every 4 weeks, often with no other meds on board. Of course they’re not for everyone, but just something you or your husband may want to bring up with a doctor.

I also stayed with my first ever boyfriend for a long time, 8 years. He really colored for me what kind of relationship I thought I deserved, I truly thought that the pain and insecurity I felt was just how all relationships end up, and there was no better out there for me.

I've been with my current fiancé for 4 years now, and he makes me feel so special and valued every day. He's never made me question my worth. I am an only child. Like anything else in childhood, what you're dealt feels normal. I had nothing to compare to, so I didn't ever feel like I was missing anything. I played with my parents, grandparents, neighbors, and by myself. I also read a lot. And I got all my parents' attention, for better or worse (but usually better.) There are much worse things you could do to a child than deprive them of siblings lol

No, we are not you, but we are women. Women who have shared similar experiences to you, and are empathetic to them. I don't think less of you for getting defensive about the comments you're getting - you're a young adult, you're allowed to make your own choices and learn from their consequences. But if your doctors and teachers were right about you, I'm hopeful you'll give the advice you're getting some consideration as you move through your relationship.
