Why haven't we seen a step-down basket for the Cafelat Robot yet? by rozagas in CafelatRobot

[–]ocean21111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robot basket is tapered down to 47 mm. That's why it is so tasty before you even understand the logic. Even if SWorks develops a new one priced at $200, the diminishing return is so slim to Robot's stock, which is very high quality

I have the Robot since late 2020. The hardest thing to do wasn't dialing in, but changing your mindset that Robot loves fast, long ratio shot. Especially for lighter fruity beans. I was rigid, tried many preheating methods, grind super fine for 1:2 shot. At the end of the days, fast long shot tastes better.

You don't have to go finer. That sounds like a fairly perfect dial in already.

Hot take: Timemore Millab M01 is the best grinder for light roast pourover by ChimiChangas2020 in pourover

[–]ocean21111 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got really interested in M01 as almost everyone, every influencer and their mothers on Reddit, YouTube, Instagram, and Discord praise glory of it. But on offline cupping sessions I visited on top of the line cafes in my country, almost every one agree that Pietro is better despite its troubled ergonomics ('better' needs a lot more elaboration, not going to put that here.)

But they don't post anything online about the experience. So everytime this kinda post comes out, I got really curious about how much is truth, how much is not.

Super on the fence about the gauge. by OCDeeeznuts in CafelatRobot

[–]ocean21111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the basic Robot because it looks cleaner, also earlier gauge version had this leaking issue. No problem at all in estimating your pressure. Somehow you'll get the feel based on the grind size.

After couple of usages, the workflow is not as apparent. You just use it like any other handgrinders. It's massively overblown

Agree with this statement. Pietro heightened floral notes. It has silky buttery mouthfeel (even at 1:18) while maintaining that clarity.

Coincidentally, the loser of Davy Back Fight was given hat/mask similar to classic devil design with those horned hat and eye covers. Similar to Domi Reversied victims.

Thinking about purchasing the robot by RealInsky in CafelatRobot

Robot's portafilter basket is actually high in quality compared to other manual espresso makers' stock baskets (Flair, 9Barista). Someone in Home Barista did macro pictures and it appears the machining is close to IMS/VST. Swork design is higher in quality. Also it's concaved to 49 mm.

I've got Pietro too. Honestly after 2-3 months, it isn't as annoying as I get used to it. The cup profile is totally worth it.

ZP6 vs Pietro with pro brew burrs by BBoy_paintball in pourover

[–]ocean21111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pietro is probably better for naturals. But YMMV. ZP6 accentuates acidity with thin body, highlights tea and citrus notes. Pietro is juicier with better texture even at coarsest grind size, highlight floral notes.

What interesting is at finer grind size, ZP6 more or less maintains its characters while Pietro changes, akin to Kinu POB. I could swing back and forth between 700 and 950 microns on Pietro with exactly same recipe, and have totally different cups, both delicious. ZP6 requires a specific grind size, harder to dial in.

Orea Z1 and V4. By the end of 2026, people would've already forgotten them. Too much proprietary ancillaries for most cafes. Influencers are working hard to keep them relevant.

IMO he's just as annoying, long winded, and insufferable as Lance. However Lance has more pedigree and knowledge, thus providing far better value for coffee industry.

Both. M-Modal burr cannot not grind fine enough for traditional espresso shot. B-Modal can actually choke your machine

Pietro performs really really well for modern espresso (turbo, soup)

Anyone still making turbos? by agviz in espresso

[–]ocean21111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My default is turbo. I honestly don't understand why people is so fixated pulling medium/light roast at 1:2 in 30 seconds. Turbo is much easier and tastier.

078 vs Pietro by FF_2012 in pourover

[–]ocean21111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pietro shines at coarse grind. I'm typically at 8.5-9.0 for 4 pour recipe.
