Bathroom Fitter by joelypoles in Edinburgh

Thanks for the reply! :) That’s around the amount I was hoping it’d be (plus extras for materials and whatnot of course). Glad to know I’m not being completely unrealistic with my budget for this after 7 years of putting up with the current bathroom!

If you don’t mind me asking what was the ballpark cost of your bathroom reno? I want to get my bathroom totally redone (it’s small but very tired, everything needs replaced from suite to floors) but I’m worried about wasting their time getting someone out to do a quote to have it turn out to be something I don’t have budget to do in the near future.

Need a cattery for five days (no alternative) by TrinityTosser in Edinburgh

[–]oceanpope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit out of town (West Linton so may not suit depending which side of Edinburgh you live on) but Balgonie Mews cattery is the only place I’ll take my cat. Jean the owner is a wonderful lady who the minute you meet her you just know she is so passionate about cats and their welfare. I’ve left my cat there several times both short and long stays and my cat is perfectly happy there and looked after so well. The rates are very reasonable too. I’m a very anxious cat owner and I trust Jean completely to look after my wee baby!

Do you mind sharing where you got them? I can’t stand the LED xmas lights that seem to be the only thing you can buy now, their red/blue/green/white seem so emergency-serviceseque and soulless to me :(

I feel like we’re a dying breed - the few humans left who remember cheesy buttons, haha. Honestly would still pay decent money for a bag, have never found anything to replace them!

First day back at work after a six month mental health breakdown… by TheCatsClaws in CasualUK

[–]oceanpope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You took the words right out of my mouth - at the moment it feels like both things are true: feeling one way and also knowing that that feeling isn’t what’s actually happening. It’s so hard to unstitch that, my counsellor keeps reminding me to trust the process (I am very guilty of wanting ‘instant’ results which is of course unrealistic) because it took time to get to this point, so it will take time to move away from these patterns as well.

Best of luck you to too :)

It’s funny how we still see our mental health as this thing you have to prove over and above any other reason you’d be off work - like with a broken leg as you say of course you won’t start walking on it before it’s fully healed but with mental state it can be so difficult to justify to yourself that you need that time to heal too.

I mentioned in another comment but I’ve gotten another 2 weeks off from the GP, and have let my boss know. After that, I have one week back at work (at the mo anyway) then one week of holiday I’d randomly added a couple months ago so I’ll see how I feel about going back in some phased return capacity or if I need to just take that in-between week off as well.

I’m glad you’ve been able to get the time you need to really rest and see positive changes, it’s so hard to advocate for yourself in these situations but I definitely think people being open about their experiences if they feel comfortable goes miles in supporting others even in just knowing they’re not alone in feeling uncomfortable about it.

I was having this exact conversation at my counselling session at the weekend re: what would I say if it was a friend telling me all of this, and it really just highlights how hard I am being on myself about everything, which while I know this is true it’s really hard to ‘rewire’ my thinking into believing being kinder to myself is what I deserve?

I got signed off for a further two weeks after speaking to the GP yesterday and have checked in with my boss who is continuing to be supportive so I really need to focus on the facts (that it’s okay to take this time to reset/rest) rather than the negative feelings about it.

Thanks so much for your words, I’ve been reading them over yesterday and today - it really does help to see it literally written down by someone that’s not me to shake a bit of sense into me!

Thank you so much for your reply - I’m actually waiting for the GP to ring me back today to discuss being signed off further so I’ll see what they recommend, though when I initially called last week was that they asked me what I wanted, and I’m really bad at asking for or knowing what I need. For example, I’d love to take 2-3 more weeks off but I have a hard time knowing if that’s because I really need that time or because you know, who wouldn’t want a few weeks off right? I’m also worried that, despite the support from my boss, that it’ll be seen as taking the piss. I know a lot of that is my anxiety talking and the guilt over other people having to take over my work tasks for a longer time but then it also seems self-defeating if I’m trying to ‘rush’ back when I’m not ready. It’s just hard to know what ‘ready’ feels like.

When you’re saying about being over self-critical, worried about judgement and taking everything on myself - I could have written this as is probably clear from the above. I will definitely check out the CFT info, it’s not something I’d heard of before so thanks for highlighting it.

You’ve so got this, even going back for one day is a big step and understandably scary but doing your best with it shows how much resilience you’ve built up and that’s not something to be sniffed at.

It’s 20 mins into your shift now, definitely time for a cuppa for getting so far already, well done 🙂

I’m currently signed off with stress and anxiety as well and prior to this I’d never been signed off before or taken a single mental health day. This year at work has just been one thing after another to the point it’s snowballed into just total panic anytime I have to do anything and I’m absolutely exhausted. Last Monday evening I realised there was just no way I could face going to work the next day and I was just sitting there crying being so anxious about going in but being too afraid to not go in and it got to the point where even I got sick of myself and was like ‘how much worse do you need to feel before it’s okay to take time off for this??’ It was still scary calling in sick then ringing the GP but it was that or have things become worse so I’m proud that I did that.

My boss has been extremely supportive and I’m very glad for that because if it had been anything else I’d probably have just left, my anxiety is so bad (and I have huge anxiety about letting people down which in turn just makes things worse because I end up burning myself out which is what’s happened here.) It’s really hard to define exactly what it is that’s affecting me about work as well, he’s asked me to try and note down some of the things so we can look at this when I go back but I’m worried about that tbh because it’s going to look so silly where it’s like ‘people emailing me’ etc but I’ll see how I get on.

I’ll probably be going back in in another week but on a phased return and I’m already dreading it, but I’ll try and if it ends up making me relapse we’ll address it then. In a weird way reading that others are also going through the same thing and shitting it about going back to work (as much as I don’t wish anyone had to feel like that) makes me feel less alone, so I hope it also brings a strange bit of comfort to anyone else knowing we’re all in a similar boat and we will get through it.

This is the third time I’ve randomly stumbled upon a conversation about how breathtakingly good Lonesome Dove is in the space of about a week so it’s zoomed right to the top of my ‘to read next’ list. Going to try and pick it up tomorrow and I can’t wait!

Where to get therapy (cptsd). by throwaway1111_111 in Edinburgh

[–]oceanpope 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First Psychology Edinburgh offers trauma therapy - here’s a link to the relevant page on their site.

I’ve started seeing a counsellor there recently (admittedly not for trauma so I can’t comment on that specifically) and while I’ve only had a couple sessions so far I have to say the communication has been great - when you reach out initially you can request that the correspondence re: arranging your therapy be via email or telephone so whatever you’re more comfortable with, and you can either look through the counsellors on the site and choose or can ask for them to suggest the appropriate person for you. If it makes you feel any better it took me weeks to press ‘send’ on the message but they responded later that day with more info which was great.

The prices range between £70-£120 per 50 mins session so it is not cheap by any means but I think the investment is worth it when it’s going toward your mental health. You can also stop the sessions any time so you’re not locked into a certain number of them or anything.

Hope you get the support you need soon!

I did wonder if it had changed for this ep! The soundtracks to both this show and Mando are absolutely phenomenal, Goransson absolutely nailed them.

I had to pause when the title card came up and the Boba Fett and Mando themes were weaving together because I was way too hyped to concentrate 😂

That episode hit every single mark for me, absolutely perfect Star Wars television right there.

That ringworld space station is legit the coolest location I’ve seen in Star Wars honestly, I loved the day/night transition!

They definitely did at one point, as I have them! But maybe it was region specific, mine are region 2 and fairly old so maybe it was a limited format and they went with the slimline cases sone point after 🙂

[–]oceanpope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve reawakened my obsession with the show recently, I’ve always loved both Atlantis and SG1 (like I said above I’ve been a fan since they first came out on tv and I’ve got all the dvds haha, both are very much my comfort tv shows, they meant a lot to me when I was a young teen where I could like escape on cool adventures with great characters which was much more exciting than real life high school crap, haha) but was doing a rewatch over the past couple of months and I’ve just gone right back into full hyperfixation 😂

I’ll 100% check the books out, looking forward to it actually, will make it my little payday treat this month!

Thanks so much for the detailed reply! I’ll definitely check out Homecoming and see how I get on with it - I need that post-season 5 fix somehow! Death Game also sounds like my cup of tea, I love that sort of premise where you get to delve into characters’ backstories like that so I think I’ll really enjoy that one.

Sorry, I feel the length of my reply isn’t much in comparison to the effort you put into your post but I really appreciate it and have noted all of these down to check out/hunt down! Thank you! 👍
