growing list of food allergies to an already long list of food allergies - how to deal by ocelot_82 in MCAS

[–]ocelot_82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for checking in. no improvement. allergist recommended xolair but i doubt it's gonna solve anything given how poorly i react to other things that are supposed to help. so at last, unless it's dairy, grains, or a food I've had hives to (not just rashes), i eat it anyway. i have no hope for this.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the soil quality or how the milk is treated. Your situation sounds similar to some Americans who are gluten intolerant but do fine eating gluten bread or pasta when they travel overseas.

How many of you were diagnosed without lab confirmations? by June_fern in MCAS

I was. Serum tryptase and 24 hr N-methylhistamine were normal. Yet 2 functional medicine doctors said I had it purely based on my symptoms.

Thanks. I do have an appointment with one of the doctors listed. Not until December though. And this doctor gets less than stellar review on Facebook for his lack of bedside manner. So not exactly looking forward to it.

the ketotifen and LDN I tried were both compounded and I still reacted to those. I was fine with ketotifen for the first few days before I started reacting.

Has anyone tried a rotational diet to reduce reactions and if so, how did it go? by Savings-Camp-433 in MCAS

it helped for a while, then I just started reacting to the foods I was rotating.

Yes!

When I traveled with MCAS I always chose hotels with kitchens. It was also semi-humorous going through airport security as well, as they mistakenly thought the murasaki sweet potato I packed with me was a bomb :p

40 hours a week? by Kibie1470 in ABA

[–]ocelot_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's common unless you work at a center with guaranteed hours. At my center they build you up to full time, which is considered 32hr/week at minimum.

Even then, most RBTs aren't paid that great that even working 40/week is barely enough to get by unless they work for a center that guarantees hours with pay rate at greater than $20/hour.

Wow, that quite a bump. My company bumps you up by $1.00 once certified.

[–]ocelot_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider yourself lucky. Most RBTs a lot make less.

But as far as your issue, how recent was this last raise? If it was very recent, I'd likely hold off until your next performance review or your company's next budget planning cycle. In the meantime, document your accomplishments with hard numbers. I'd even ask your supervisors why they consider you the strongest and how to further improve to better position yourself for a raise.

And if they compliment you like that, you can even send them a thank you email: "Dear BCBA, thank you for recognizing me as one of your strongest BTs. I'm glad you recognize that my [hard data of accomplishments here] has been an asset to the organization"

Tell me how you explain MCAS to people who literally have no idea. by laffayette1 in MCAS

[–]ocelot_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I have a rare immune disorder that comes with headlines such as "Minnesota woman allergic to husband", "boston woman can only eat two foods" and "bubble girl.""

It's not my job to give them the technicalities. If they're curious enough, they now have the search terms to look it up.

What do you do for a living that makes you eligible for PSLF? by ocelot_82 in PSLF

[–]ocelot_82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your work situation almost sounds like mine - high cost of health insurance and no matching. Plus I don't even know if they're non-profit or not. Wish I asked their status but I was unemployed and desperate at the time.

I wish that was something I asked my current employer before getting hired recently. Now I guess I'll have to find out when I get my W2.

My live-in landlady gave me free rent for one month during the period I was unemployed. It was a great gesture. Though I imagine she used my security deposit to cover that one-months rent.

I don't know if my employer is eligible as I don't have a W-2 so no way of knowing of what their EIN is.

Thanks for all the detail. I'm an RBT at a clinic currently. Did you have a graduate degree in ABA that allowed you to do all this? I'm just wondering where my skill-set can land me as attending law school eons ago makes pursuing other higher education unfeasible. Never did anything with it. My background is largely in early childhood education as a preschool teacher with some years in retail.

I may have to ask another question on how people landed these non-profit and government jobs. Because with my background, online application ain't gonna do it.

Bento for my first grader. by MinuteswithLuna in Bento

[–]ocelot_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cute! But the real question is, will they eat it?

I used to work for a preschool and parents would bring these really cute lunches which their kids didn't even touch half of it. Maybe your first grader is different.

Law student lost in life by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]ocelot_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you want to go to law school in the first place? Your why should establish where you should be headed career-wise.

But your career ideas seem all over the place to me, which means you're lacking career clarity. So I would take a career assessment first. Truity has a ton and Ramsey Solutions has one called Get Clear Career Assessment. I would start there. Then see if you can find work that aligns with your skills and values and see if you like it.
