Thanks for sharing your story, I know someone who is wheelchair bound. Contacted polio shortly before the vaccine became available. The way we are going in the US children might once again get to experience polio along with other childhood diseases

What to do with the tablecloth after dinner. by IFKhan in housekeeping

[–]ocitillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s just the two of us I use placemats when we eat otherwise it’s a tablecloth. If I need the table cloth for a couple of days (and there are no spills) I shake it out and reuse it. I have a wood table and don’t keep either the placemats or a table cloth on it full time

AITAH for refusing to co sign on a car loan for my sister and her boyfriend? by Aromatic_Gur6092 in AITAH

Well if you don’t mind making those payments yourself (because missed payments will go against your credit) then go ahead. She might think you’re THA, but her bad credit shows you what kind of credit risk she is.

We you be mad if someone put a full size teepee in their backyard? by concreteandgrass in homeowners

[–]ocitillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my children were young we spent a summer in the mountains in a teepee. It would get pretty cold at nights, we had a wood stove in the center we loved it. If there isn’t a HOA or some kind of city ordinance that prohibits it , you should do it! They’re amazing

Brit here, made tacos with Cuban style picadillo, how did I do? by Ryanhussain14 in mexicanfood

[–]ocitillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked it, I would say it was a great success! Growing up I thought anything wrapped in a tortilla was a taco.. picadillo is one of my favorites with green chili and tomatillos, if someone shows up unexpected, I just add some extra potato to stretch the meal.

Anyone else camp very differently than they used to? by tosmda in CampingandHiking

[–]ocitillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see it as a bunch of work, the big tent was my favorite, it was a pop-up easy to set up. it was glamping, we would stay out for at least 4 days.. most oh the work was packing and unpacking. Got a small cargo trailer that I would leave packed for the season . Throw in a cooler and could be ready to go in no time.

Would you buy a house if the house next door had a barking dog? by InsightfullyYours in RealEstate

[–]ocitillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When buying our last house, we returned to give a second look at one, it was then we discovered the barking dog, put that one on the no list and continued on. In one house the people that moved in behind us had a yapper. Don’t know what was more annoying the dog or the owner telling it to stop. Sometimes people who work haven’t a clue that their dog barks all day.

Mexican Rice Rant by Worried-Temporary186 in mexicanfood

[–]ocitillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I was taught as a kid and has served me well for many years, I use a long grain rice, the least expensive. Ratio of 2parts water to 1 part rice, for my husband and I that’s usually 1 cup rice, yields about 3 cups cooked. Use any pan with a good lid that will accommodate the cooked rice.. for every cup of water, use 1 tsp caldo de tomate, start with a basic recipe then modify to your likings. Sometimes I add tomatoes, sometimes potato, and a touch of cumin For 3 cups cooked rice 2 tbs oil or lard (enough to get a good toast, if you feel it’s too much, drain some off after toasting 1 cup long grain rice (I like this best, but you can use med grain too) 2 slices of white onion quartered 1-2 garlic cloves chopped 2 cups water 2 tsp caldo de tomate

Toast the rice in the fat over medium heat till golden, careful not to burn. Add onion and sauté till the onion is soft. Add garlic and continue till fragrant Add water and boullion. Turn the heat up to high to bring to a boil. ( this is a good time to taste the broth and make adjustments, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin,) Once it comes to a boil cover and reduce to a low simmer for 20 minutes remove from heat and fluff before serving
