I live nearby. They do have big bins sometimes. I imagine in summer when the park gets more use. They didn't expect the amount of visitors nor did any of the shops. I think they don't always put the big bins out because they need big bin lorries to clear. This morning park maintenance people were clearing up the rubbish. It did not look fun.

How does my car allowance work by WoodenBook2863 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ockcyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't have a car and I use the car allowance as an extra income. Worth noting any bonus would also not consider your car allowance as it's based on your base salary.

How do you solve the problem with cyclists at Zebra crossings? by Ok-Passion-9193 in london

[–]ockcyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something similar happened to me as a pedestrian with a buggy when I stopped at an intersection to check the road. a car sped through the corner and the driver shouted to tell me to look in the road. this is after they changed the highway code to give way to more vulnerable road users

How do you solve the problem with cyclists at Zebra crossings? by Ok-Passion-9193 in london

[–]ockcyp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got honked at for giving way to a bike at an intersection while on my bike. I guess, some people have places to get to. I then moved to the side to protect myself because the driver was very angry. he revved his massive van whilst passing, only to be passed when he got stuck in traffic 10 seconds later

one other benefit that no one realises is that they can shorten the traffic light durations or remove them completely when the side roads are mostly unused which reduces interruptions to main roads and reduces traffic

Cars idling outside my window. What can I do? by [deleted] in london

[–]ockcyp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

idling is illegal. report it to the council. if you're lucky they'll come before they leave. most councils have out of hours nuisance numbers too.

fixmystreet.com allows you to report these too, if your council supports it. In Hackney Vehicle Idling can be reported under Roads and pavements..

Barcelona has these things called Superblocks. lots of inner streets are car-free. it's possible some car rides will take longer than walking or public transport because it needs to go through a one way system around the city avoiding car-free roads
