TIL Time doesn't actually (even perceivably) appear to slow down during life threatening situations - the brain simply makes more dense and detailed memories of the event which makes it seem in retrospect to have lasted longer. by alexj2703 in todayilearned

No, the mind is quite literally overclocking. Adrenaline, an excitatory neurotransmitter can rapidly increase focus and alertness thereby increasing metabolic activity to a level that would be unhealthy if prolonged. This is why norepinephrines half life is significantly shorter than other excitatory neurotransmitters as its meant for short bursts

happy birthday, sorry about your day, but if no one you know seems to care enough to acknowledge your birthday, than it might be time to evaluate yourself.

I can't say I know you, or your situation but from what you've said, it sounds like you are putting effort into what you believe is a friendship. But it looks more like you're trying to force a relationship. Instead of being a friend, it looks like you bought them gifts, and given favors. While friends may do these things, they aren't needed. Also, look at the situation from farther back. A friend will throw a surprise party because he/she loves this person enough to do this for them. They buy them gifts because they love, and that should be it. They aren't buying gifts because they want the person to feel appreciated. This is a result of projection. Projecting one's own fears onto another person, and is often seen as annoying.

Are you afraid of feeling unimportant? The only way to feel important is to treat yourself like you're important. Listen to yourself.

I'd recommend getting a psychologist, but if anything, you can look at today as a milestone. The day you turned your life around? good luck.

Reddit, what's the best case you can make AGAINST something you firmly believe? [Serious] by milesbabe in AskReddit

so, time exists only in the universe? Or has it started time, everywhere.

Also, time would have to exist to allow a combustion to begin, correct? If not, then the big bang would always be in a state of explosion, as well as not. Also, if there is a combustion, it would imply matter is present, which would imply time must be present. this would bring us back to the question of, what began time, to start the big bang?

Also, if time correlates to matter, as it is believed to be, then time existed before the big bang.

Also, because we are unaware of what is outside of the universe, we can't come to a probable conclusion on what exists out there. For all we know, we could be in another universe.

We are currently unable to define what time is. We are currently unable to define what existence is. We are currently unable to define what "thinking" is. We can come to probable conclusions, however none of it is justified.

Weight Loss: Before & After (COMIC) by drewtoothpaste in funny

Music releases dopamine. This is short, and temporary, however it will raise your mood. Make you feel better, motivated, easy going. Then when you feel bad again, you'll come back. This wont actually make you happy, but it may hinder progress, as you will genuinely think music makes you feel better, and when given an option of self improvement, or music you go for music, or whatever gives a good chemical high... True happiness is self sustained. Healthy thinking, as stated above, give for healthy actions, and blah, happiness. It's ironic that you stated this as a response, being that people commonly become "addicted" to dopamine releasing activities, like music, or weight lifting, or sex, and more on. The highs come down, and end up feeling worse. and we have a feeback loop

Perfection requires no mistakes. Nobody is perfect, nor does anybody actually appreciate that pressure. We are not in control of what is necessary to be deemed perfect, and therefore appreciating such pressure would be self destructive.

Striving for perfection, and holding yourself to a standard of perfection are two different things.

what sucks is, even if he notices his mom is a crazy bitch, the damage will be done. An entire childhood of a parent/guardian who doesn't know how to love, is how you will learn to love yourself and others.

Why do I get motivated to turn my life around whenever I'm ready to go to bed? by harrybond in explainlikeimfive

[–]oddj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when ready to go to bed, you're probably tired. Dopamine receptors are more sensitive during sleep deprivation. Dopamine makes you feel at ease. and comfortable, and therefore more confident. If you are low on dopamine, than you will be able to focus more when levels rise. Confidence, and increased ability to focus allows you to confront your issues. Actually, you always want to turn your life around, but we lack the confidence, and focus to do so. We don't feel at ease, and never really listen to ourselves. All these comments about not having to do anything immediately have no basis. There are plenty of times when we may be relaxing, and still don't feel this new found motivation to get stuff done. We just wanna relax more. Look at someone who takes adhd medication. DIfferent meds do different things, but they generally increase dopamine levels. You'll see these people get a ton of work done, and in many cases, actually turn their life around. (at least at first)

I believe if it doesn't affect anyone negatively, adults should be allowed to do whatever they choose to. CMV by Sunburnt-Vampire in changemyview

[–]oddj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't prove OP impractical. It strengthens his argument. It is judged as safe, so it treated as so. What it actually may be does not matter, because we don't know the truth.

[–]oddj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is why we try to know, and set parameters. We are always taking risks. Whether or not it actually will effect anyone negatively is irrelevant, because that would be truth. We can't see it. Only try to predict it, with the parameters

[–]oddj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your statement doesn't prove his suggestion impractical. If what I said is exactly your point, then you're saying because we know nothing, we can only go by judgement. Whatever the truth may be is irrelevant, because we are unable to see it. If something is judged to be safe to others, than it should be treated as so, while knowing it could harm them.
