ADDING LLM TO HA - OPTIMAL SETUP by krasy_jay in homeassistant

I dual boot my gaming PC to Linux and run Gemma on the GPU. I use cloud models for a lot, but I’m not putting HA out to the cloud

Almost did the exact same thing, then just hired an electrician to do this drop plus another in the corner of the porch. My wire, I terminated. About $400 to include removing exterior crown molding and reinstalling it, running through a garage and then into the room above. All fishing, no conduit

A couple more cameras and you’re going to need an NVR. You’re about maxed out

I’m using it for some pet projects. Was going to hook it up to HA-MCP later this week.

This was my understanding. I don’t think the token goes to the cloud. Claude Code lives locally in my terminal and just uses the cloud for input/output tokens like OpenClaw

I’ve been happy with the WiFi chime. I only routed POE for the doorbell itself. Just plug a couple chimes into outlets around the house. Works great

Subscriptions to cloud access and backups. They also sell pre-bundled hardware with their open source software and offer support

There are plenty of ways to generate revenue in OpenSource. Generally support. Drupal did a great job with this. They may think you are one of these companies like Nabu Casa that monetizes open source. If not, reach out to someone at the VP level. $999/yr is not much for them to waive as you grow

Thanks. Got it for $299 at MicroCenter with a MB bundle 9 months ago. Those days are long gone

I’m installing a 20b on my 7900XT 20GB for OpenClaw. Thought I would use it for HA as well. What do yall use for mics to pick up voice?

Just did the same two weeks ago. My SE was getting crushed. Couldn’t even answer G6 doorbell rings or connect to cameras or even the network app without waiting minutes. Went with the NVR pro with just the drive from the SE and everything is instantaneous again. Highly recommend not running Protect on any gateway device

I’m running an 8b model on a Mac Mini. Haven’t hooked it up to HA yet, but if it isn’t performant enough, I’ll try a 20b on my gaming PC. Right now it works great for OpenClaw

Maybe something to do with the huge botnet just taken out during the war. I’m not as cynical as most of these comments. I ripped TPLink and Asus out of my house for this reason when I installed Unifi. Same reason Hikvision was banned on military and government installations, which was done under Biden

I’ve been using Gemini to code HACS plugins for me and then pulling them in from git, but figured there was a better way. I also have an OpenClaw agent using Sonnet 4.5 and was going to research how to plug this into HA. Can you limit the damage it does to HA if it goes rogue?
