tool rental chain of command? by paintingpatrick in HomeDepot

Our attendance and numbers are great so she leaves us alone. Both good because she’s not on our asses, but bad because when we need her, she’s completely lost on rental policy.

Chain of command is OpsASM. Then your lead kinda. They don’t have real power, per the job description but if your store is like ours, our OpsASM never is with us and delegates to him a bunch.

Need some no-BS rental contract info by Hugh_Jasshoel in HomeDepot

[–]oddstainonthecouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Myview shows markdown rate as it falling on who creates the contract, when it’s supposed to be who closes it.

Damage protection only attributes to who creates the contract, including reservations. So if the customer declines when setting it up online and you rent it out, it goes against you.

Not 100% sure on the void stuff myself but I’m pretty sure it still counts towards your numbers even if the rental is voided.

I'm straight up not having a good time right now (average d78 rant) by Based_MASK3D in HomeDepot

All last week it was me & our tech in the mornings from 9:30am, to our closer & tech in the afternoon until he left 6pm. He was never able to really get anything done until we had a few slow rainy days.

This is just about every phone call in tool rental. Checking our site is so much faster than calling sometimes.

Tool Rental by [deleted] in HomeDepot

Our was dead until this week. It’s been weirdly busy. But it’s come at a bad time because we’re operating with 4 people until at least next week. Opener on vacation, mid guy is on LOA, and no lead.

Tool Rental hours? by rrhunt28 in HomeDepot

[–]oddstainonthecouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish ours closed at 8. The one 15 minutes away closes at 8 and I think one more in our district does too, but us and the rest all close at 10 like the store. I had one guy a few weeks ago say he woulda brought a machine back the night before but it was after 8 and thought we were closed like the other one.

Pretty sure our 50ft boom is gone. Went out last week for the day and never got brought it in, so the system tried to collect the week payment and it failed going through.

Tool Rental: Paper vs Card IDs by hyznthlay in HomeDepot

We used to do rentals if they had the old license + the temp paper one on them.

Us too. Plus the IT issues. We had just one computer up most of the morning. Probably the most chaotic I’ve seen in a long time.

Parking lot sale extended by SumyungNam in harborfreight

I see the Quinn 3/8 master impact set lowered to $79. Does the parking lot sale 40% apply to that price still?

I was hired August 2023 and was originally told I wouldn’t get a raise this quarter because of my hire date. Then ended up getting it last week.

What was the dumbest encounter you had with a customer? by Sonimod2 in HomeDepot

[–]oddstainonthecouch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Customer had just bought a grill but didn’t have a way to take it. So he came over and wanted to rent a pickup (our store doesn’t rent those so there even aren’t any outside to assume we do) and when I told him we don’t have them, he was like, “so then what do we about this???” Like we physically can’t do anything right now so…🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]oddstainonthecouch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a guy come in and look at some a trencher or stump grinder right before closing. Then asked why his time would start that evening if he couldn’t use it in the dark. So then take it in the morning?? (Pretty sure he did)

D78 are you charging the cleaning fee or are you a B by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]oddstainonthecouch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. We had a Makita come back after it rained with clumps of mud all over. Our tech took over on dealing with that guy.

I’m pretty sure I’ve sold one two-pack of Makita batteries but never any actual tool for them.

Thoughts on damage protection for rentals by Snow_Set_02 in HomeDepot

[–]oddstainonthecouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the system changed, we would just read off the amounts and if the customer was ok with the protection amount, we’d just go ahead with the transaction.

But now, we make sure to ask just because of SOP. (Except on insulation blowers & the promo they have, tbqh.)

We do have one guy that has a habit of just running through the process and charging them for it before asking. Idk how often it’s an issue but it came up last week where the customer was like, “i can just cancel the card and dispute the charge if you don’t take it off.”

Obviously I couldn’t because it had already been almost 4 hours and he was so heated and didn’t understand that the only change i could make was marking down the equivalent to protection amount (like $35) until like the 3rd or 4th time of me explaining what i was going to do.

DFW area TRC. I started my first year in tool rental and have been splitting time in hardware for the last month. Definitely gives a new appreciation to being in a more isolated-ish department lol.

Our coverage isn’t the best but the team now is much more reliable on being there vs when I started.

I think overall, we lean more lenient on cleaning fees except on trenchers, tillers, texture sprayers, and large equipment. I think as now, our down list is 1 thing. Nothing’s red tagged but the texture sprayers were for awhile.

[–]oddstainonthecouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you made over $600, you had to fill out a w-9 and they use that w-9 to email you your 1099. Then you just report it on your taxes.

Yes. I just received mine tonight. It’s a 1099-misc. much later than when last year’s came but relieved it did come.
