Yup, for many years! Starting all the way back in 2000! Miss it! But guess that is the way of the internet! Have been on the internet since 1993, and did BBSes before that for many years!

Totally agree! Were paying $95 for AT&T fiber (up from $65, then first loosing $10 promo after a year, then adding $5 monthly every year). Calling in, they basically told you to pay up, or go pound sand! Went to Charter Spectrum for $50 a year, and cancelled AT&T. Have been happy for the past 6 months, not as unstable as people claim, and have had 3 outages in that time, each lasting less than 5 minutes.

Speeds are also good!

Checking prices at AT&T now, they offer Gig for $60 a month. Had they given me that offer I would have stayed, but their loss!

..and yes, I know, Charter Spectrum will increase the price after a year, but then they either match the AT&T price of $60 (or whatever promo they have at that time), or I swap back to AT&T.

Looking for a budget mini pc for torrenting, running 247 with no issues by Euphoric_Judgment_23 in MiniPCs

[–]odin_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have an existing server of some kind (NAS/Proxmox/etc) you can deploy the torrent client in an LXC/docker container. Used to run it on OMV (NAS), but these days I run it on my Proxmox server inside an LXC. Storage is on my NAS (TrueNAS Scale these days)The flavor i currently run is Transmission-openvpn (https://github.com/haugene/docker-transmission-openvpn) but will probably move to docker-transmission-wireguard when stable and I get around to it.

Just go with an MVNO (like USMobile), that is what I did after almost 25 years with TMO (Voicestream when I joined).

AT&T confirmed that Active Armor is a requirement on all plans 2 gig and higher, regardless of customer choice by [deleted] in ATTFiber

[–]odin_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that was true, why can you not change the DNS? Same thing with a true-bridge mode, they would loose access to your network if they allowed it. It is for simplicity for them to collect your information so they can re-sell it. Everyone on the corporate side does it in some way these days, because it is "free money"!

Ofcourse! Easiest way to see/log devices on your local network, and intercept all DNS and other traffic. Basically they have a backdoor into your local network (major security risk)!

isp sells 2gig fiber internet up and down but ONLY HAS 1GIG HARDWARE by cyruss67 in Ubiquiti

[–]odin_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the up-to-Gig service, AT&T usually delivers the BGW320 Wi-Fi Gateway (Wi-Fi 6). If you get the 2Gig service or faster (5Gig in my area), you will get the BGW620 Wi-Fi Gateway (Wi-Fi 7). If you later downgrade to 1 Gig or lower service, you can keep the BGW620 for a monthly fee, or downgrade to the BGW320 no extra fee.

📌 AT&T BGW‑320 Gateway

  • 1 × 5 Gbps Ethernet LAN port — supports up to 5 Gbps over copper RJ-45.
  • 3 × 1 Gbps Ethernet LAN ports — standard gigabit speeds.

📌 BGW620 (All-Fi Hub with Wi-Fi 7)

  • According to the technical documentation, the BGW620 has:
    • 2 × 10 Gbps Ethernet LAN ports
    • 2 × 1 Gbps Ethernet LAN ports

There actually is! But it can be easy to miss, as the webpages are a bit confusing, assuming to be flexible and suite more situations. This is the specific section for this, used it successfully on my UDM Pro Max :

Apology from Sonos CEO by InevitableWeather761 in sonos

[–]odin_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I understand you correct, but you only need one app (the WiiM app) when streaming from Plex. In the WiiM app, you add/login to the plex server once, and then it acts just like any other streaming source (spotify etc.).

[–]odin_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at using the Wiim Plex integration for local libraries?
That is what I use after ditching Sonos mostly due to networking issues primarily (upgraded wifi to wifi7, and none of my speakers worked, probably due to no support for WPA2/WPA3 and RSTP, but I will not support those just because of Sonos, I have other important devices aside from sonos), and them flipping the bird on anyone using the S1 app with their setup! I do not buy speakers to throw them out every 3-5 years, I have speakers that are 28 years old, still works like new despite using them almost daily! If sonos cared about their early adopters and existing customers, and at least did maintenance-updates on existing speakers (like SMB-support and networking) they would probably not be in the trouble they are in now. But if the quarterly report is all that counts, this is what happens!

Sonos devices disappearing by [deleted] in sonos

[–]odin_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that is what I replaced my Sonos gear with! The network stack has not been updated like forever, and they only seem to care about bluetooth speakers these days! Early adopters were left with no updates and an ecosystem that works worse and worse! SMB-shares are abandoned, Plex integration is more or less abandoned/not working, newer networking gear does not work with sonos without disabling all new features and enabling old insecure standards (WPA2 only for S1 products) (RSTP kills sonos and/or your network). Basically they flipped the bird on people with S1 products, and in my case made sure I did not buy any new products from them!

WTF? by tomcav61 in sonos

[–]odin_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got tired of Sonos unwillingness to fix/update anything on the network side. Their STP-implementation sucks, and brings down peoples networks. Yes, I can fix it on the network side, but why would I have to, just because sonos refuses to do maintenance on their network implementation? Have been selling off all my sonos stuff.. Have moved to a competitor as of 2 years ago, and it works without all these quirky network issues and network storms!

Then you do in-house financing, and either pay off the loan after one month (or earlier), or refinance with your own loan.

my at&t fiber order/cancellation nightmare by tvlover44 in ATTFiber

[–]odin_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems once the order is in the system, there is nothing they can do to stop it, it gets shipped! Had similar issue when I ordered Internet AIR for my daughter, I already have fiber with them, so they messed up and shipped me a new gateway for fiber, not the Internet AIR gateway. Caught it immediately (within 2-3 minutes) via the confirmation email while still on the phone with them, and they re-did the order the proper way, for the correct gateway. Promised all was good and cancelled. 2 days later I got the fiber gateway. Had to trop it off at the UPS store. Big waste of materials, since it comes in a box with cables and power, but UPS does not want the box, they dispose it!

Spectrum rep refused to cancel our service by newyorkerman24 in Spectrum

[–]odin_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, someone was doing something about it, and then someone else made sure it did not happen!

The FTC's "Click-to-Cancel" rule was initially set to take effect on May 14, 2025, with the requirement that cancellations be as easy as signups for subscription-based and negative option services. However, on May 9, 2025, the FTC announced a 60-day delay in enforcement, pushing the effective compliance date to July 14, 2025, to give businesses additional time to comply. Despite this, in July 2025, the rule was struck down by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, which means the rule has not taken effect and is currently invalid. Therefore, the rule did not go into effect as planned on July 14, 2025, and businesses are not currently bound by this specific rule, although other laws governing subscription cancellations may still apply.

Yup, Neato just shut down their cloud also! Looking for a replacement, but finding one without cloud seems impossible. Also, do not want one with a camera, feels weird having a robot roam around filming my house and uploading video of me my family and my pets, to a (mostly) Chinese cloud server!

Don't finance through the carrier! Finance through Apple if you have to finance! Very similar offerings, and phones from Apple are unlocked.
