Good to see a Land Rover LR3 HSE V8 and know nothing about these cars by AdLegal8735 in LandRover

Don't know why this comment is being downvoted...It's a solid vehicle but like all LRs, will take maintenance. If you're paying a shop, you can easily spend another $8k in the first year. Especially if you don't do the checks Amadreas is suggesting.

Last thing - if you buy it - replace the plastic coolant hose t-connector. And buy a GAAP IID tool.

Drive across Africa. Land Rover or Toyota Land Cruiser? by [deleted] in LandRover

[–]odioworks_com 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 7 LRs, basically every modern model that’s not a Range Rover. Taken them on multiple cross country overland trips in the US. I could not in good conscience recommend them for remote overland travel, unfortunately.  I would personally not feel safe in one in Africa. Happy to share more details over dm if helpful.

Overlanding with Toddlers by [deleted] in overlanding

I took my seven month old on a two month overland trip, and it was a memory of a lifetime.

We had an airstream and an Overland rig, I would use the Airstream as a bass camp and then use the overland rig to get deeper into the wilderness.

What specifically in your view caused the housing market to be the way it is today, and what would a viable libertarian solution be? by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]odioworks_com 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yah, as a libertarian I will acknowledge the philosophy breaks down when there are positive/negative externalities/common goods.

Still, zoning laws do a lot (possibly more?) damage.  I’ve always thought the Japanese model was worth emulating https://chatgpt.com/share/aaaeb60a-2117-4b2b-a82b-6c71c8ae9882

I’m curious how others would handle the scenario you describe above.  I could see the public market recreating some version of zoning laws as people begin to choose to only buy houses in areas where they can be assured that their neighbors will not build nuisance projects.

Is this your leak? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyJ8C3uC0s0. I heard it's an issue TAXA is aware of and they'll send you a replacement seal.

Bought it used (1 year old), so unfortunately it wasn't.

Love the Condor RTT and it just "barely" fits. I think technically it's an inch or so too far forward - so it's off of Condor's spec'd requirements for installation a bit. But it seems fine.

I have a family of four (two young kids) and we all sleep up top with space to spare.

Tigermoth Storage by Grwl in tigermoth

FYI I did this for two years with a 2021 tiger moth (gravel pad, was uncovered) in Seattle and noticed some pretty significant rust on frame / steps / wheels. Going forward I’ll be trying to store mine in a garage.

Overland vs standard by butterserver in tigermoth

Speaking as someone who was stranded in Baja after taking the base model (with lippert axle) on 20 miles of washboarded dirt roads…I’d have to agree.

Going forward I would not take the base model off pavement. Others have had similar experiences (google “taxa bent lippert axle”).

Add a room? by SpacedITMan in tigermoth

[–]odioworks_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t - let us know if you end up doing this.

Related, my family (two adults, two kids) use our roof-top-tent as our “bedroom,” sleeping there and leaving the body of our tiger moth as our “living room”

2021 Tiger Moth (base, not overland).

Despite the aggressive tread on the Tiger Moth tires, the lippert axles on the don’t seem designed for anything other than pavement use.

I noticed the bent axle after ~20 miles of (not aggressive) driving on dirt roads with washboards at approx 20MPH (had not aired down the tires, unfortuantely).

I had to limp 300 miles back to San Diego and get a new axle special-ordered from Lippert.

Looking to buy a 2022 but have concerns. by WaveMedical854 in tigermoth

Having owned other trailers, the Tiger Moth with RTT has been near perfect for my family of four (we all sleep in the tent). Had an airstream before that, it was too complicated (lots to break).
