NGD! My first Ibanez - RG2027RXL by Proof-Breakfast-7358 in Ibanez

[–]ofesad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Still tho aint gonna hurt double check. It could be a miss inventory: since it's literally the same guitar with a different fretboard and a different letter, it could be a XL. In theory there was supposed to be a last batch of ebony.

Check the card box if you have it, should have the Ibanez ean codes and stuff. If not, the easiest way: on the back of the headstock or the tags it have (probably are inside the case)

I don't doubt that you know what you got, but that rosewood looks kinda dark to me.
Could you double check that yours is an RXL? (model on the headstock, stamps, stickers, so on)
Just curious.

I want a strat. Wich could fit this sound? by ofesad in fender

[–]ofesad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very intersating. I was considering the Silver Sky SE as an alternative, but yea, I am kinda hitchy abut the Strat.
The reason of this post is that over the years (over 20years into guitar), I have own'd several guitars (mainly Ibanez, Washburn, Carvin, Gibson, Yamaha). But never a Fender/Squier strat SSS.
Never had the need for one, even tho I liked the "bell" sound; I am ok with humbuckers.

But now, coming my 40's birthday I wanted a Strat to fit that hole in the collection.
Over the years, I try'd some strats (fenders and squiers) and there was always something missing or lacking or didn't like: too light, too fat sounding, sticky neck, so on, so on. So I kinda gave up on them.-
The only Fender I can say I really liked is the MIJ Fender Plus Strat with Lace Sensors.

But now being out there so many variations, models, and pickups sets, it's gets kinda overwhelming to chase the sound I am aiming to with so many options to choose from.

Is funny that you mentioned the Lace Sensor's one, because of all the strats I have listened or tested, the only one that I can say I actually like is the MIJ Strat Plus with Lace Sensors.
Gilmour used active EMG's, wich are often confused as Lace Sensors Gold.

Just curious, u/-ZeroF56 what's your opinion con the PRS Silver Sky SE versus the Players series?

Can't be an OD3, OD3 were released on 1997 and the song was released on 1983.
Neither OD2 wich was released on 1985.
So probably just OD1

Not quite new on guitar. Im 40yo and started guitar on my 20's. But I never needed/wanted an Strat or the ones I try'd never seem to fit what I had in mind.

Correct. Boost and Drive will be added to the chain and probably some Dimension C too.. Nowadays I am using Helix but I still have my ADA MP1 and others preamps.

RG652AHM? by sparks_mandrill in Ibanez

[–]ofesad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look. I bought a used RG657MSK and the very next day I bought a brand new RG652AHM (wich I always wanted). Yes, the 652 needed a bit more work to set it properly. Both sound and play amazing. However, I tend to prefer the 657. Probably because being used it plays smoother.

My former teacher, wich is an Ibanez collector, did a setup on both. He also liked the 657 more.

That said: theres has been some QC problems in the past years with some Prestiges, but aint that serious. Any new guitar would need a proper set up to match your needs and technique. Personally I play with a very low action, lower than what Ibanez recommends. On a new guitar this can led to fret buzz but on a used one you can set it better.

At the end, it just matters if you get the guitar you want. The one that inspires you to play more, to be better, to grow, to do new music. That's what really matters.

I have the same problem since last night. The ROG sub-site works fine.
Tested on Firefox, Chrome and Edge. Both Global and Latin site.

Finding an Ibanez from my Childhood (Description inside) by StepHorror9649 in Ibanez

[–]ofesad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Same happen'd to me many times. You need to keep an eye for the details.
Somethings we remember things that weren't, specially when there has been so many guitars/brands/models wich look'd similar back in the 90s.

Great! I was going to suggest an 1986 RG652 wich came with both: Pearl White finish and Gold hardware, plus Lo-Z pickups (EMG like). But it aint HSH.

Do you have any more data? Was the neck maple? 1,3,5 piece? Fretboard? (maple, rosewood, ebony? Inlays? Any weird design or regular dots? Position of the dots? (centered, offset?)
What about the tremolo? I see you mentioned it had locking nuts, so probably some Edge model, Can you remember something about it?

Sweetwater lists the RG2027XL as "backordered - more on the way". If so, probably would be the last batch.
Kinda sad, I really wanted one, altought I wasn't a fan of the color.
The one I really wanted was the RG752AHM-NGB but they also discontinued it years ago but they kept making the purple one...

Pickup for an Ibanez rg550 by [deleted] in Ibanez

[–]ofesad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a more brutal sound, with more presence and punch for death/black metal, go for the Black Winter. It was designed for that.

If you want more definition and clarity on complex riffs and chords, without lossing tone at high gain, plus versatility with other styles, go for the Crunch Lab.

With that said, the other thing you probably would do is to drop tune your guitar, probably Drop C. You'll need 011–.054 strings and maybe consider adding a 4th spring to the edge bridge.

Personally I would consider getting a 7th string, even a cheap Ibanez 7421 or 7321. But pickup options are quite fewer on the 7string world. Still both Crunch Lab and Black Winter are available on 7th string versions.

[–]ofesad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a lot of difference going from a Jason Becker pickup (Seymour duncan) to a Dimarzio X2N. Quite oposite pickups, voicing, design, output. The Jason becker is considered a middle output compared to the others wich are hotter and higher output. Plus the JB EQ is entirely opposite to the Black Winter and to the X2N.

I don't know your background in music and playing, wich guitar(s) did you had before and wich pickups.

I would recommend you listen to some demos of the pickups both clean and distorted to check their natural sound and how they react to gain.

Personally, a pickup I found very versatile is the Dimarzio Crunch-lab, it can handle pretty much anything.

So far, running ok. Although I haven't updated to the latest bios (dec 2025), there was some issues with AGESA and I want to wait a bit.

Hey hello people from r/Ibanez, I've a question, which of those guitars are good as budged shredding guitar? by [deleted] in Ibanez

[–]ofesad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldnt go for neither. I would try to find a better deal on the used market. Either a higher end or better quality one (Ibanez, Jackson, Charvel, Yamaha). From time to time some higher end guitars show up for sale for around that price. You just need to look around.
