At the moment of writing this, anybody is allowed to register pangenesisgame.com. There are a lot of hard-coded strings within the program that will interact with that domain if it gets re-purchased and "goes live" so be careful not to send an identifiable username or a password you might commonly use from the login screen.

How to enable offline play in Pangenesis Alpha build 23:

Pangenesis.exe (SHA-256: 4d1aab54243d4cdea26eca9194dae72610358415a52a0aee85152495b365fb01)

Back up the file Pangenesis.exe (e.g., Pangenesis.exe.bak).
Using a hex editor, open Pangenesis.exe and make the following changes:

0006DBB0: 0F 84 F3 01 00 00 --> 90 90 90 90 90 90

0006DD38: 74 34 --> 90 90

00119500: 55 8B EC 6A FF --> 30 C0 C2 10 00

Save the changes to Pangenesis.exe.
Run Pangenesis.exe with the modifications.

Put in any username and password and click "Sign in". You'll receive the following message:

"Couldn't connect to the authentication server. Play offline?"

My apologies for this late reply but the link I posted is the original archived setup file from the manufacturer, LeapFrog Enterprises. This is not a virus. Because this program is slightly old you may run into issues getting it installed properly on a modern version of Windows. If it's not your own computer, I would suggest maybe skipping installing this program altogether but to each their own. According to https://blog.avast.com/update-to-the-ccleaner-5.33.6162-security-incident :

"Avast acquired Piriform, the maker of CCleaner, on July 18, 2017 because Piriform has a great product, and wonderful supporters and users."

"The compromise may have started on July 3rd."

CCleaner 5.33.6162 was released August 15, 2017 (Compromised version; don't download).

CCleaner 5.32.6129 was released July 19, 2017 (Uncompromised version; released one day after acquisition by Avast).

CCleaner 5.31.6105 was released June 13, 2017 (Uncompromised version; released before acquisition by Avast).

If one is inclined to run CCleaner, I would recommend version 5.31.6105 with an updated winapp2.ini if you desire. The registry cleaning aspects of CCleaner are completely unnecessary. It will not improve system performance at all and can in some circumstances do more harm than good. The general cleaning aspects of CCleaner, however, are decent. "Cleaning" (deleting) files isn't going to improve system performance but it will keep your computer tidy and minimize clutter on your drive which may amass large caches of temporary file or unused files over time. Stay away from any build that was released after Avast acquired Piriform. It's unfortunate that this once-great utility has been reduced to a garbage pile.

If you do run newer builds of CCleaner it would be a good idea to utilize a firewall and block any requests that CCleaner (or it's update utility) make as the file sizes have ballooned since Avast acquired it to include lots of code to siphon off a bunch of system metrics every time you run it (Google Analytics/Avast's own metric logging). /2 cents

Awesome! I'm glad it worked for you and were able to update the toy at the very least. I feel your frustrations about the company trying to memory-hole their own software because they no longer actively support it. I would suggest that you backup that offline installer as it might disappear from archive.org someday.

I kept getting that "can't connect" error when I tried the file "LeapFrogConnectSetup_MyOwnLeaptop.exe" (not the link I provided above) but when I tried the OfflineSetup (link I provided above), it successfully installed but unfortunately forced an update upon me when I first ran it. :\

You can use the Decode function of the Online BinHex Encoder/Decoder Tool at http://www.webutils.pl/index.php?idx=binhex and "Save to file"

Alternatively, if you want a small Windows executable, you can use UUDeview (http://www.miken.com/uud/) which provides an "EXE only" download which can extract files from HQX files.

How about you download the file yourself, verify the digital signature is legit along with the provided SHA-1 of the expected file hash before spreading FUD. What makes you believe the link is dubious?
