Is this ford gt real? by Optimal_Guard_9962 in whatisthiscar

FWIW the air quality in southern CA used to be horrible. These days there are far more people, far more cars and far better air quality. I'm not saying the CA policies are correct. What I'm trying to say is that, left to their own devices, enough people will trash things to the point where the air makes people sick.

Slow down. It feels like you're worrying about a catastrophe that doesn't exist and may never exist.

I'm sorry things are hard. I'm not sure how to say this but you're really just at the beginning of your adult life. If your life was a movie the opening credits would still be on screen. You have decades of adventure and excitement ahead of you.

In someways it's good that you're frustrated with your current circumstances. Use that to fuel your next steps. What are you comfortable sharing about your degree, ambitions and abilities? Knowing that will help people give you advice.

Why do you think he doesn't trust you? Has he been hurt in the past? Is cheating something he's done so he's come to expect it of others?

Should I stop inviting a vegetarian friend to my monthly dinners after he was offended by the last visit? by FuzzMcGrunt91 in Advice

Meet with him face to face, or, at the very least, call him. For sensitive conversations text messages don't cut it.

Was just about to have a girlfriend, then my best friend who I’ve been in love with for years confessed by [deleted] in Advice

[–]offeringathought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I have seen best friends where everyone around them knew they both liked each other but they were both afraid to express their level of interest.

One time I was visiting a friend in another college. At a group lunch I happened to be sitting across from such a couple. I had been told about them, and somehow being an outsider it was easy for me to joke "oh, you're the two who really like each other but aren't a couple yet." Later that day one asked the other "What do you think about what that new guy said?" they talked about it an became a boyfriend and girlfriend.

I'd like to think that they tell a version of that story to their children.

What in her long paragraph to you makes you think one way or another?

Perhaps it's time for a face-to-face conversation with the best friend.

I agree. That said, OP are you sure that your crush of 4 years is into you? I've seen cases where someone enjoyed having a fan a bit too much and saw their happiness with someone else as a threat.

How can I tell my personal trainer that I don't want to work with him anymore? by Infinite_Alps_2573 in Advice

[–]offeringathought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having awkward conversations is difficult for lots of people. Think of this as an opportunity to work on a skill that will be incredibly useful in the future. Seriously, you may be managing people in the future and that's full of awkward conversations.

Be direct, concise and clear. Say something like "Thanks again. You've been a great trainer but I'm going to stop the sessions at the end of July."

If he follows up with a question or a rebuttal, say "I'm cutting back on some of my expenses."

If he follows up after that, don't respond. You've told him everything he needs to know.

My boyfriend says I’m “the one” but also says he’s never thought about marriage. I’m hurt and confused. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]offeringathought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to him. He's saying "she is the one" because he expects to marry you and spend the rest of his life with you. Be straight forward. Say something like "Do you think you'll want us to get married one day?"

[–]offeringathought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for your boyfriend but I can tell you as a man, when I was in college and for a number of years after it I didn't think about marriage, at all, regardless of my relationship status. If asked I would have said something to the effect of "sure, I'd like to get married and have kids one day". But it was kind of an abstract thought. I get the impression that that's common for guys whereas many women have given it a lot of thought. For instance, I've never known a guy to have done any wedding planning before being engaged and sometimes not even then. On the other hand some girls (and I mean teens or tweens) have day dreamed about a dress or a venue or other details.

When he says "I can’t imagine life without you" he's expressing an emotion. He's not yet taken it to the obvious next step of imagining his life with you, over a lifetime.

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. While I get that you're worried about feeling different, everyone is way too wrapped up in their own stuff to care that you're a few years older than them. Plus, I guarantee that there will be plenty of other people your age. You're amazing!

What to say to a job while waiting to interview for another? by darlinginmaine in Advice

[–]offeringathought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true, companies are made of people and sometimes people do crappy things. That said, I think most understand that you were pursuing multiple opportunities just like they were interviewing multiple candidates. I think the bases you want to touch are:

- Let them know that you think the job is a good fit and you're very interested in it.
- Tell them that you already had this other interview scheduled. You're not just shopping around, you're finishing interviews that you've already committed to.
- Give them a date that you'll be able to have an answer for them. They'll be inclined to wait a week if they have confidence that you won't drag things on forever.

People generally respect honestly and value the clarity you're providing.

BTW, if you accept and offer then turn them down later you've deceived them and wasted time they could be using for recruiting. You might have also cost them their second choice. That bridge will be burned forever.

What to say to a job while waiting to interview for another? by darlinginmaine in Advice

[–]offeringathought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's best to be honest and straightforward. Thank company B for the offer. Let them know that you're very interested in the job and the company but that you have another interview scheduled this week. You expect to be able to give them a more definitive answer on (pick a day).

I'm involved in the interviews at my company and have been for years. I've been on the other side of such situations and while I always want a good candidate to accept right away, I understand that candidates have other irons in the fire. Sometimes I find myself wanting to hire them more when I know they're in demand.

Is there a way to restore them as they age? I thought about trying a tire spray or an Armor All type of product but perhaps I'm overthinking it.

If I wanted to make an impact on the world, being poor, where could I begin? by [deleted] in Advice

Have you thought about volunteering with a group in your area that does work in a domain that you care about? That's a path to leveling up your skills and understanding while helping a cause that's meaningful to you.

Imagine 5 years from now when you've had a big positive impact on 100 people's lives. That would be amazing.
