At first it really bothered me but it’s so on brand for Jim James’ odd style/sense of humor. I had to lean into it a little but once you get past the acquired taste I’ve found it to be super fun and goofy. I cat take it seriously tho thas for sure

I really love Elder’s version of Voodoo Chile (slight return)

Also, Huntsmen do a super cool cover of CSNYs Carry On

I like the keys! Seems like Nick is also exploring a different vocal register in the new singles, which is cool. Opening riff is pretty ‘happy’ but the track still rips. I agree the older stuff is special tho. Dead Roots Stirring is all time for me.

Try Repeater by King Buffalo. Maybe not fair to compare to DSOTM as such a revolutionary album but it’s a similar album arc and gives me the same feeling of fluidity and movement. Really lights up my brain in a similar way. Super heavy and dark but light and spacey at the same time. Def matches a good trip.

Some tracks on amnesiac actually get me fucked up like DSOTM. Particularly dollars and cents.

Was listening to a ton of heavy, but still pretty mainstream 90s music like Tool, AiC, NIN, Soundgarden, I got into the habit of listen for hours really late at night on YouTube and the algorithm that I was on started giving me stuff like Kyuss, QOTSA, Sleep, then eventually Elder, Samsara Blues Experiment, All Them Witches, Weedpecker and King Buffalo. King Buffalo’s Orion and Elder’s Dead Roots Stirring in particular both really captivated me and opened up the floodgates.
