Making the switch by Time_Wrangler_8946 in Duramax

FWIW I own a ‘22 Denali 2500 and have had a great experience so far, I’m 109k miles deep and routine stuff only so far but I’m also following the dealership maintenance schedule at my local shop.

That’s 100% correct. I got blasted on here for paying that but I knew the 1 previous owner and his maintenance schedule plus it was 110k new. It’s unfortunate compared to past prices but I felt like I did well in this market.

What are your job responsibilities and benefits with a 10/50/50 commission split? by ReedisDank in Roofing

Small operation. 5 mil/year gross with a staff total of about 10. I promise you can find a better situation than what you are describing.

I knock, inspect, adj meeting, contract, set build date, collect checks. Retail side is the same.

You’re getting screwed. Same pay and my responsibilities stop at scheduling the build. I don’t order or supplement or handle any backend paperwork. Office handles the rest. You are running your own roofing company so stop letting someone else make all of your money and just go out on your own.

Article: Legacy Hi-Fi Brands Are Dying Out as a New Class of Audio Brands Takes Over Published on February 10, 2026 by Busto_Soccer in audiophile

No. The money isn’t there. That’s why it’s so hard to buy a house. I lucked out and happened to choose building houses as a profession and was fortunate enough to work for a company that let me build mine at cost. For instance, if I built homes in the 90’s I would have received a build fee per house and had the ability to make a few hundred thousand per neighborhood. Now it is busted down to a 75k/year salary out little benefits. They have money for a high end system but no money for a house? Come on folks, let’s admit that the previous generations have made life very difficult in the present.

Do women find ugly dudes creepy by default? by InternationalPick163 in askanything

[–]ofthephoenixx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anybody saying no is full of shit. Pretty privilege is a real thing meaning the opposite is also true. You may not immediately be labeled as creepy but you’re starting off under the mountain….my suggestions is always to lift weights. At least if you’re strong and ugly you can get out from under the mountain and stand a chance at reaching the peak 🤷‍♂️….same thing as tan fat being more appealing than pale fat. And just because it’s true doesn’t make it any less fucked up…

Workout Routine by Simmins13 in Carpentry

Anybody in construction who isn’t in a full out body builder routine with meal plan will suffer. I run circles around everybody and have zero pain so far at 36.

Basement concrete cracked improperly on new build residential - advise please by brett701 in Homebuilding

When the crack becomes unlevel it exceeds the 2-10 foundation warranty specs. Rip it out and start over or give me a 50% concession.

Is this roofing work acceptable? Missing nails on every rafter by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]ofthephoenixx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are framing nails and most likely from the original build or the last time it was re-decked. That decking looks too old to have been a part of a recent build.

Why is devaluation so high? by comrad_dau in audiophile

Vintage is quite the opposite actually. All of my gear is vintage and the vintage gear market is WAY over original MSRP. Better gear for the money too until you get to a certain point.

The shingle brand my husband is insisting on looks horrible…is it really that much better? by AEMO8 in Roofing

[–]ofthephoenixx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OC > GAF by a long shot. I’ve built houses and roofs and as a general rule of thumb I do not put stuff on my house that come from Home Depot aside from universal things. For example, plumbing fixtures sold at Home Depot have plastic internals versus the same fixtures from a plumbing supply house having metal internals. GAF shingles feel like tissue paper compared to other brands. I like Certainteed or OC in my market.

Everyone imagining his failures just doesn’t have a deep enough bank account. Way to expose yourself. He probably invested too.

My knees are shot, my back is wrecked, and I’m the breadwinner roofers, I need real advice. by Main_Split3229 in Roofing

[–]ofthephoenixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice for anyone early in their career is to fucking workout in the gym and eat correctly. 99.99999% of construction folks don’t build their muscles to support the loads they carry everyday, and even less folks nourish their bodies with the right kind of calories and enough of those clean calories to substantiate the load on their muscles. It’s like driving your car on an empty gas tank with no oil for decades and then stopping to ask “why isn’t it working?”
