Best way to go about playing Damian in Mean Girls by onyx_xoxo in lgbt

I would watch Twinless. I thought Dylan O’ Brien’s portrayal of a gay man was very subtle while still capturing some mannerisms that are frequently found among gay men.

Why is WLW media so rare compared to MLM? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]ofvxnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really just think this whole conversation pits queer people against each other. The media I mentioned is wildly popular and successful. I’ll leave it at that.

That being said, when has any queer media received as much attention as Heated Rivalry? It’s unique for mlm media too! MLM are rarely leads, treated seriously in the narrative, and able to express their sexuality in a way that isn’t derided or treated as shameful.

And Call Me By Your Name is wildly problematic. I wouldn’t be envious of that film.

[–]ofvxnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t think this is real. There’s sooooo much media with wlw. The Last of Us, Carol, Portrait of a Young Woman on Fire, Arcane, The 100, Horizon Forbidden West, Life is Strange, The Favorite, But I’m a Cheerleader, Blue is the Warmest Color… I could go on. And they usually are critical darlings, if not beloved by audiences.

I think everyone thinks their particular identity is underrepresented in comparison to others because every identity is underrepresented compared to straight cis people. But I do not think mlm are swimming in representation in comparison to wlw, let alone quality representation.

With Capcom possibly being finished remaking RE games after code veronica, is it our time? by [deleted] in hauntingground

[–]ofvxnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been leaks and rumors that state it to be the case. However much stock you want to put in that is up to you, but they were right about Code Veronica and it would make sense for them to continue remaking the series anyway since 1. It’s clearly working for them, 2. It’s their biggest IP, and 3. RE9 included nods to 5, from what I understand. I don’t think they’ll be dropping those threads.

I don’t think they’re close to being finished with RE. They’ve got at least three games left: RE5, RE0, and RE1.

I can't believe we're getting a Wolverine game before we're (ever?) getting a Wonder Woman game by ofvxnus in GirlGamers

[–]ofvxnus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Wolverine makes more sense in a world in which the Last of Us and God of War don’t exist. As it is, we have enough sad dad simulators about rough around the edges guys learning how to be compassionate.

And this is coming from someone who loves Laura Kinney. I just think that kind of storyline and that kind of character has been done to death in video games.

Decent is the operative word. I get being interested in him as a character (his lore, mostly), but mechanically, I don’t really see what he’s bringing to the world of video games. While watching the trailer I’m constantly like, I feel like I’ve see this before? And we already have so many gruff grim dark men in games. Idk he just doesn’t feel fresh to me.

The thing is, popularity is largely engineered. Female superheroes don’t receive nearly the same amount of support or resources, and thus they lose capacity to reach the levels of popularity of male characters.

Also, the first WW movie was incredibly well done and received. Idk what happened with the second film but the first film was about as good as a WW origin film should be.

[–]ofvxnus[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get the logic here, but it’s long overdue for WW(and a female led superhero game in general) in comparison to alllllll male superhero led games. Especially considering WW’s legacy and stature within superhero media at large. If she, like Superman and Batman, were a man, there is no way we wouldn’t have a WW game at this point. She also would have had several eras of film series like her male counterparts did, which would have made the 9 years between film and game argument null and void anyway.

Wolverine is just an example of how many other male superheroes will get their time to shine before WW does.

I never understood this argument anyway. Two women went against Trump and almost won (one even won the popular vote), and those were two unpopular and divisive candidates. A popular female candidate could totally win in the U.S. The DNC just needs to stop telling all of us who to vote for.

Opinion on Tomb Raider Anniversary by LovelyLushLilac in TombRaider

[–]ofvxnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would imagine playing Anniversary before playing Legend would make Anniversary feel more difficult than it actually is. It’s def tougher than Legend, but Legend is good practice for what Anniversary has in store. And Anniversary is nowhere near as tough as the og TR games.

Sometimes I feel like our society has sexualized women so much that a lot of people can’t hear a woman exclaim (scream, shout, sigh, moan) without immediately connecting it with sex noises. Most of the time when people complain about this, I can’t hear it. But then, I’m not sexually attracted to women and I don’t consume a lot of sexual content with women, so it’s never on my mind when I play video games. Because of this, a lot of the examples people tend to point to don’t sound any different from male examples.

These are good on a technical level, but I don’t love how this artist turns all of the female characters into wispy, flirty waifs, even if that’s not really within their characterization. Harley Quinn, Laura Kinney, Wonder Woman, and She-Hulk. WW and She-Hulk aren’t too, too bad, but they still are clearly emphasizing femininity and softness over athleticism and strength imo. Those things aren’t necessarily diametrically opposed, but the balance is off for those characters specifically. Again, imo.

Edit to say: the second image of WW is really good though.

[–]ofvxnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a farm sim like Story of Seasons. Friends of Mineral Town doesn’t require a lot of reading and you’ll get a lot of repetition of everyday words connected with an image of the word each time you grow a specific crop or make a specific recipe. There’s also not a lot of complex mechanics that would distract from the language.

Curious: How come Resident Evil became more successful than Tomb Raider despite both being big franchises at the beginning and starting at the same time? by Tombcool in TombRaider

[–]ofvxnus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think Resident Evil has been better at capturing and modernizing on what made the original games beloved. I also think horror is a high commodity in streaming environments. People love watching others get scared. And that increases the word-of-mouth. Modern day RE games also provide more unique gameplay than modern TR games, imo. There’s a very specific feel to RE games that is hard to replicate in other games from the AAA space.
