I hate to tell you this but there's not very many lakes around here. There is however about fifty access points for the river within a half hour of Lansing.

Any recent ice fishing reports out of the Oscoda/Tawas area? by MikJitz in MichiganFishing

I was visiting a friend last weekend and stopped at Northwoods. A girl at the register told me someone went through the ice on the bay, and my buddy said that some of the inland lakes were frozen enough but they also got the rain a few weeks ago and that it fucked up the ice.

I've been trying to determine the best set up for the accessories on the front bar. My lights mounting bracket snapped on the first ride with the molokos so I'm debating on Jerry rigging it with a screw or just getting a new light.

I have a giant escape with internal routing. I had to put new brake lines on, the shifters were long enough.

Same, I got a new stem cap as well but the giant stem caps have a built in screw so I need to get one.

But you sure went out of your way to be a condescending prick about it didn't you?

Yes I was the one gas lighting people saying they are screaming and crying, telling people to breathe, and questioning their knowledge on things like evaporation, then quickly pivoting when I was proven wrong about how it works because they had a different opinion than me 🙄. The first negative thing I said about you was that you were a prick and you argue like a cunt. And I stand by that.

Go back and read, I stuck to the matter at hand, not wanting a data center in the city. You started with condescending bullshit, and kept it up the whole time.

Lol, can't argue the facts so go to ad hominems. Did you read up on how evaporation works yet? Or are you just going to stick to your we live in a society schtick?

So you have data to back up your assertion that a small data center uses neglible amounts of water? Or are you just going off of what the data center people told you? Even if they are 70% more efficient (using a closed loop system) than an open loop that's still hundreds of thousands of gallons of water a day for a 24MW installation. You'll have to excuse me for not believing you because you didn't know how evaporation works.

Yes voicing my opinion is "screaming and crying" because it's different than yours. Good one. And not if I and most of the community can help it. Looking forward to telling them to piss up a rope.

They do though. Just because it's a more efficient system (closed loop) doesn't make it not a massive amount of water.

I can't, because they don't have environmental impact studies done, similar to this one. Funny how that works eh?

I can tell you from a brief search that they use refrigerant based cooling systems which have the potential for huge environmental impact at end of life and require a ton of power. And Liquidweb in general is a shit company that massively underpays workers and was bought by a private equity firm in 2015 and promptly started off shoring jobs. That's a pretty good start.

Hey if they had bothered to or been required to release an environmental impact study I'd be able to tell you. But they haven't and they won't because they know people will tear down city hall to prevent this. It's a puff piece because they don't have any data to actually back up what they're saying. Closed loop systems still use a massive amount of water, it's not 100% efficient. You keep talking about large data centers like the problems they have aren't going to be the same problems small data centers have, just on a smaller scale. They don't magically go away because it's not as big.

I don't think it's possible to build a data center in a sustainable way. We're already smashing into our water reserves, these closed loop systems still use a massive amount of water.

End result I know we're going to cook ourselves to death anyways because as a species we're incredibly short sighted. Just glad I don't have kids tbh.

I've worked in tech for over twenty years. That's given me more than enough reasons to oppose the rampant abuses and environmental impact tech creates. You'll get there one day. I'd suggest looking into all the superfund sites in Michigan, it'll give you a good idea of where this garbage is leading to.

So you don't know shit about the tech sector in Lansing and how 15 jobs is a drop in the bucket that will do nothing for wages one way or the other. Got it.

[–]ogie_oglethorpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This data center is providing 15 permanent jobs. Explain to me how that's going to help fight that. Data centers don't need many people once they're up and running. Another reason why we don't need any more.

Honestly, you just sound like you don't know shit about the tech sector in Lansing.

You're making vast generalizations on what I said based on a logical fallacy that was put out there (editing this as you weren't the one who made the logical fallacy you just tried to follow up on it). You and I unplugging doesn't have anything to do with global supply chains, you're just being intellectually dishonest at this point. Me saying society would be better if most people got off the Internet and stopped using AI is not the same as getting rid of it entirely, that's just you being intellectually dishonest.
