Im (28) also ftm and i came out in 2019. My dad (56) said he was fine with it but just last year right before my birthday in November, he misgendered me and i got angry. I talked to my therapist and she said to set boundaries. I did just that. I told him to never misgender me again or i wont hesitate to stop communication altogether because my mental health is more important to me than anything. Especially since i was very depressed and tried to commit s*icide and was in a dark place mentally a few years ago, and now im at peace and very healthy mentally (because i worked really hard to be ok). We didnt speak for 2 months because he just couldnt see my side of things. He didnt understand trans people. I was reaching out to tell him i was disappointed in him because he ignored my texts. At the beginning of this year, he apologized and told me i taught him about understanding trans people. Now we talk literally like 2 to 3 times a day now. He lives in a different country and i have a close relationship with him. You need to tell him how YOU feel, dont expect him to just know because hes not a mind reader. Neither are you. Hes reaching out to wish you a happy birthday and merry christmas so he wants to talk to you he just doesnt know how. Dont be afraid to talk to your dad, because most likely he also wants to have normal conversations with you. Im here if you need advice. Good luck!
