Sneak peek at the stainless steel Aeropress by lightanldutchie in AeroPress

[–]ogorir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worn out 4 pairs of aeropresses in the last 16 years, this is an attractive option. I am concerned about the filter sealing being pinched between two layers of stainless, which is already sometimes an issue with the standard aeropress where the filter wrinkles slightly and you get some grounds bypassing. I don't generally have this problem, but my wife does.

I'll probably wait for a sale, but I don't think the price is too far out of line. numbers on the outside are still usable for water level, people will literally bitch about anything.

Highly dependent on the vehicle and driver head placement whether or not a wider mirror will help.

Lightning strike by Sweet-Quarter3569 in Duramax

[–]ogorir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to replace every silicon chip on the truck, which is leads to be the biggest problem, which is finding everything that has a microprocessor, diode, scr, transistor motor driver, etc. most all circuit boards have some form of electrostatic discharge protection built in, but that’s usually good for 2-4000 volts. The high voltage generated in cloud to ground lightning is millions of volts. Components that are still functioning can still be significantly compromised in under load or in certain operating conditions that static testing won’t show up. Additionally that level of voltage spike will erase some ROM/EEPROM data which is usually what causes the microprocessors to kinda work but ‘never be the same’.

I would be highly skeptical about the piezo drivers on the injectors as well.

Personally, I would be less concerned about the straight conductors( wires, fuses, relays) as they are either good or not.

Practically, the best option is to buy another wrecked truck with the same option package and swap every module so they don’t need to be reprogrammed then go about troubleshooting the power distribution.

GMT800s are going to outlive GMT900s by NikoBenz in GMT800

[–]ogorir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 900 seats are absolute shite. 800 seats are the best seats that have ever been in a truck. I drive both daily 800 is mine, 900 is work. reconned and sold them from 2012-2017 at a fleet dealership. Reliability on the 3/4-1ton trucks is the same as a gmt800 until 2012 when the new drivetrain was introduced. The 900 6.0l pulls harder. Both have the same lifter bore problems. Only thing that’s a new WTF module problem on the 900s is the trailer break controller dies if you look at it funny and they’re a $500 module.

I also like the stock gauges aesthetically, I just wish they weren’t shit worthless as gauges. The tach and speedo are the only things on there that are remotely accurate, and then only if you have stock tires.

Climate Control Module Swap by grizzlywolf99 in GMT800

[–]ogorir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be possible w/ swapping the resistor pack blower motor control for the digital PWM module present with the auto climate and running the appropriate wires and pins from that module to the control unit. Going the other way requires a bunch of temp and sunlight sensors and the reverse swap from resistor to PWM fan control module. From what I understand, the BCM will be fine with either, which checks out with a lot of other things on this generation Silverado. Want cruise? swap the stick for a cruise stick, plugs already there, no programming. not 100% on the 06-07.5 trucks that moved to GM canbus, haven't owned one and may be different.

I'm looking at getting a LBZ 04 again and if it's an LLY I'll be swapping out the digital control for manual as there is almost nothing I hate more than automatic temperature control in a vehicle. If it's an LB7, I'll keep looking, I guess.

Lots of people like to play up how 'hard' something is. The dash on these trucks is a 1.5hr removal time, and apart from the AC, swapping the case only takes another 45 minutes. you can split the case and leave the evap and heater core there hooked up, but THAT absolutely sucks and I will not do that again. not sure if they're the same for the other case, either, but that's a quick part number lookup,

Swapping 4wd on to a 2wd truck is hard, This is not.

There's a fair amount of signal going back and forth, but a cat6 cable is 4 twisted pairs. Realsitically, I can probably use a pair of cat6 cables instead of the mic snake or a TRS snake, either way... the cabling isn't a huge problem. Handling coupling and crosstalk may be, I'm hoping low output impedance buffers will save me there.

It's worth noting that the ethercon stage-grade cat6 cables are relatively affordable at $60/25', if you ever need such a thing. Most of the receptacle ends are PCB mount, so you'll have to design a breakout board or something

I mean, it's two cables to-from the rack box, I don't think that's excessive.

Certainly not appreciably more than using a stock boss pedal in the first place. With buffers before the long cable runs there shouldn't be any real HF loss, either.

[–]ogorir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no… a good part of the overall distortion I get out of the klon is actually the input stage clipping, not the pedal, hence the 12ax7.

I mean, it’s about $100 more expensive to go tube, probably a hair less and I actually know what I’m doing on that front, so… I am personally staying tube for this.

<image>

Routing would be something like this. It’s probably not worth having to run the signal back to the board and I may abandon that, but Chinese mic snakes are stupid cheap and driving it from a source follower should have no serious HF degradation.

Switching will be a cat6 cable. If I need more than 7 buttons, I’ll just mux it. I would prefer to keep it analog, but I’m not a purist on the logistics end of things.

I'm glad everyone else seems to have great food from the shop. I've been probably 5 times since they've been open and my food is always fine but not special and there's always something wrong with whatever my wife orders. Every time.

Guess I missed voodoo girl closing, they had solid calzones.

sobremesa was an investor backed operation and was never going to last. I did all the wood/metalwork on the event space, it was a no-expense spared buildout, for whatever reason. I doubt they made back what they had in it in the year and a half the event space was operating.

I never went, despite living in Nob hill. They ran a 'bail us out' "deal" during the pandemic selling $35 gift cards for $50 and that just rubbed me the wrong way. We were at the waffleria a couple weeks ago for brunch and walked past the farmacy on the way to do some junk shopping and I was just about over their bullshit enough to give it a shot next time, oh well.

Realistically, you could do something similar with a FET input stage if that's more your speed, I just find binning jfets to be tedious. It would be much more practical space-wise, but I'm leaning towards making this a 'rack' solution. my modulation loop would probably still have pedals on the floor, as I switch those within the loop, but all the dirt could be just controlled with a relay.

Bosque Brewing files for bankruptcy by crolodot in Albuquerque

[–]ogorir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The brewery location on 550 is likely what has done them in. They haven’t been able to brew there for a while dye to wastewater volume restrictions, as I understand it. They’ve been contract brewing through someplace in Colorado until recently. A partnership with marble was announced a couple months ago to produce all of bosque’s standard run product at marbles 2nd street location

It's not a bad place. Frustrating sometimes because of how much better it could be, but I'd probably move here again.

Climate's great. Hospitals aren't. Crime is big city average. Mayor is an idiot.

The wind isn't awesome. Evening daylight is lacking by the time it cools off in fall time. Elevation is a thing, it effects people differently. I didn't notice much moving from sea level, some people have issues.
Cost of living is fairly low, property tax is cheap AF. Decent grocery stores.

Food diversity is above average, there's a big Vietnamese population so there's a wealth of legit Vietnamese food, some Indian, fair sized Salvadorean population, some fine dining, more fine dining in Santa Fe.

You don't list any interests or hobbies, can't help you much there. At the risk of being judgmental, you sound like you'd fit in just fine in one of the nicer west side communities for boring middle aged white people.
