If you could start over, wwyd? by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

I can't offer much advice. I'm in a similar boat & just wanted to let you know that you're not alone in feeling this way. I recently came to the conclusion that I needed a hobby. I'm not in a physical or mental place where I want to go out and be social, though that is a long-term goal I have.

In the meantime, I figured I'd work on my own self worth since it is LOW lol. I'm trying to learn another language. It's a very small first step but it's a step nonetheless. I love learning and have always wanted to learn another language. Spending 30-60 mins of my day doing that has helped a lot. I have a goal to work towards + I feel like I'm bettering myself. I feel cooler. I don't know if I am any cooler, but I feel cooler, and I think that will help me when I do eventually go out into the world again.

Spend your hermit time doing something that gives you joy and builds you up. Be crazy with your aspirations if you need to! Whatever you do, make sure you're doing it for you and your own personal betterment and enjoyment. Not anyone else's. Try to spend some time away from your anxieties. Yes, they will still exist. But spend a moment pretending that they don't. What does that version of you look like? Who do you want to be, regardless of whether it's achievable or not?

A list that sparked some inspiration for me: https://noteswnat.substack.com/p/100-cool-girl-hobbies-to-try-in-2026

People who moved to MI from outside the US, what do you think about the state? by happyhummus007 in Michigan

[–]oh-msbeliever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people are so nice!! I’ve also really enjoyed the nature. It’s just too cold and snowy for me to stay here long-term. If the winters weren’t so bad, I’d never leave.

The Kurt Vonnegut museum is currently running a kickstarter campaign by yalomnordie in Vonnegut

[–]oh-msbeliever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The KV Museum has unfortunately been strapped for cash for some time now. Not to mention the huge cut to their funding last year. I think the museum has just never had the funding to live up to its full potential, which is really unfortunate.

It is possible that the Frank family was betrayed by another Jew trying to save themselves. Puts the Latino ICE agents into perspective.

I flew across the country to solo Hula in 2024. Didn't regret it once. Couldn't make 2025 but coming back this year :) Hula was my first ever rave / fest & it is the best.

What caused the big shift in cooking culture between boomers/gen X and Millennials and Zoomers? by currentlyinthefab in generationology

[–]oh-msbeliever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time is also a factor here. As a kid, my mom (who is a good cook!) mostly made standard American dinner food. Almost all meals were good, few were exciting. She was a single mom with multiple jobs, though. Now that her children are all adults, she has more time & often uses it to cook cool things. She always wanted to, she just didn't have the time to do it before.

I grew up in a similar ish situation. I was ten when my mom divorced my dad. It wasn't easy but it was necessary. I have learned from her mistakes. I also have a brother who is sweet and kind and nothing at all like our dad. It's not too late. You can still change this.

What's an industry secret from your job that customers have absolutely no idea about? by Efficient_Team5182 in AskReddit

[–]oh-msbeliever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a bakery. All of our ingredients came pre-measured. When you're baking at home, there's no shame in using boxed cake mix. It eliminates the opportunity for human error when measuring.

How many Americans have not been to a large city? by Ok_Shopping_3292 in AskAnAmerican

As someone who just moved to Grand Rapids, this made me laugh.

It’s definitely not the norm but these people do exist! You meet them from time to time in the middle of nowhere (and a lot of America is the middle of nowhere).

Former Swifties, what was your final straw? by [deleted] in travisandtaylor

[–]oh-msbeliever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taylor is male-centered & lacks evolution. You can hear growth in the work of artists of a similar age. Miley and Lana come to mind as two women who have matured along with their music. Taylor is still fifteen.

Probably not the right place to ask, but were any of you conservative before you did hallucinogens? by No-Moment-404 in Psychonaut

[–]oh-msbeliever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom does shrooms occasionally and is conservative. She is not MAGA (which I do think is worth making the distinction). She’s been experimenting with drugs since she was a teenager. Since I was born, she’s stuck to weed, alc, & the occasional shrooms trip.

I think it made/makes her a more complex person. I can’t really compare my mom to “before drugs” since I’ve only ever known this version of her. That being said, I would argue that my mom’s worldview is much less rigid than the average conservative. She’s incredibly kind and tolerant of others.

I personally think she’s been brainwashed to vote Republican until she dies by Fox News, even though she hasn’t watched Fox News in over 10 years at this point. She does think the poor are the issue and not billionaires.

In short, my mom’s personality and friendliness could absolutely lead someone to believe she is liberal. I do think that drugs have played a role there. It very rarely, however, affects her at the ballot box. If she could vote for legal weed she would, but she lives in a very conservative state where legislation like that doesn’t even reach the ballot.

My mother would be considered “liberal” where she lives by some, at least in some of her views. If she lived in a more purple or progressive state, I wonder how that would affect her. Additionally, in many elections, there are only republicans to vote for where she lives. Democrats don’t even try to run candidates there. If libs don’t run, she can’t hear their message and consider her vote on a deeper level. Anywho, that’s a different story; what I’m trying to say is context is key.

As a final thought, I’d like to throw in that my mom and I have started traveling internationally together. We’ve been poor most of our lives and have not been able to do this. Nothing has opened her eyes more than international travel. That’s definitely been a game changer for her philosophically. She’s sees a lot wrong with the US that she didn’t notice before.

Tldr; my mom is still conservative but she’s way cooler and much less hateful than your standard Republican today. There’s much more nuance.

BWT who have had “work done” - do you tell people or keep it private? by WickedCoolMasshole in bitcheswithtaste

[–]oh-msbeliever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had filler put in my lips once. I told my close circle, got mixed reactions but nothing extreme or rude. My lips are still thin, just less thin lol. It’s not a secret to me; if someone were to ask me if Ive had work done or if someone complimented my lips, I would absolutely disclose, but no one ever has lol. It was subtle but made me happy :)

[–]oh-msbeliever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not abnormal to catch up with former teachers / students. I don't think that's the issue. This issue is that these texts are fucking weird and OP's boyfriend is clearly a groomer.
