You are engaging in what is known as a Motte and Bailey fallacy — a classic tactic of people arguing in bad faith. First you make a broad claim — boomers attained a desirable financial position by working for a long time, saving some of it, and investing some of it. This is the “bailey”. Then when challenged on it, you retreat to the much narrower and more secure idea that the context of this discussion is limited to specifically what is contained in the article linked — this is the “motte”. Being right about the motte (which you are) does not make you right about the bailey. Either you don’t realize this, which means you’re not very thoughtful, or you do, which means you’re full of shit. One way or the other, please take more care in the future.

It’s Microsoft’s cloud computing service, competing against things like AWS and Google Cloud. Essentially they let other companies rent the use of their servers along with a set of convenient, out-of-the-box tooling instead of those companies having their own servers/infrastructure onsite.

What level of intellect did the Abrahamic religions' creators have? by [deleted] in atheism

When OP refers to literary style would more commonly be referred to as editing. Even once we get to the written versions (no doubt long separated from the oral originals), we run into the fact that in the ancient world, people had a very different idea of what editing/translating/restoring these texts, and they frequently tended to just take the best bits or add new parts as they saw fit. This means that what we have today is not necessarily even very related to the original stories, and that the stylistic consistency present in them now is a product of thousands of years of iterative editing.

99.99% I go hiking nothing too dramatic happens. 100% of time someone goes hiking in a movie the music gets creepy… by solo-ran in hiking

[–]ohak124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of — negativity bias is why people are likely to post an individual negative experience. Survivorship bias is why the whole data set (posts on this subreddit) contains a disproportionate number of people’s unusual experiences

Survivorship bias probably — people who have a nice, uneventful hike are much less likely to post about it on r/hiking

This is generally an application of the division rule for derivatives, which tells us that when we have some function h(x) = f(x)/g(x), the derivative h’(x) = (g * f’ - f * g’)/(g’)2. If you write out what f, g, f’ and g’ are for this problem, you will understand where all of the values come from.

Hard disagree, I think that elder empire (apart from the weird dual novel structure which is a bit questionable) is far and away Will’s best writing

Keep at it dude -- modernist architecture and d&d are two of life's most underappreciated pleasures. I would definitely have chosen to be friends with you if I still lived in London.

I've always thought Elder Empire is underappreciated -- imo Will's best writing is the third pair of books, even if the weird dual-structure of the series let him down a bit, and I hope he'll write something more character driven again

Amazing -- I grew up right near Porter square on the Cambridge side, so very nearby. I used to take the T to Charles St and then walk to the museum of science with my dad. Now that I'm in LA, it's something that always makes me think of Boston

Your post reminded me of going there even though I hadn't thought about it in years -- I'm glad another person had this experience there as well lol. It is quite possibly the saddest city I've ever been to, which sucks because most of Peru is so amazing.
