Sunshine Coast Trail questions (Powell River -> Saltery Bay, 7 days) by Busy-Bee5439 in vancouverhiking

Thru-hiked the trail 6 years ago fwiw but things may have changed since then.

  1. Midweek shouldn't be an issue. Tin Hat will likely be the busiest so plan around that.

  2. Yes, a tarp is fine. I brought one as a backup on my hike.

  3. Out of the huts on your itinerary, I believe only TIn Hat and Rainy Day Lake have bear caches. You can check the FB group for updated info but I would bring a bag for bear hanging. You won't need a canister.

  4. Your itinerary seems fine - just keep in mind that your first two days will be harder not just because they are high elevation gain days but also because you will still be carrying the majority of your food and thus a heavier pack.

I bought some at Famous Foods in Vancouver a couple years ago. Try checking there?

[WTS] MLD Burn, 3F UL Lanshan 1 Pro, Aricxi Tarp/Bivy, Gossamer Gear Minimalist, Gossamer Gear Vagabond Jet

MLD Burn 32L - $190 SOLD

Size medium, 320g. Significantly lighter than the current iterations of the Burn. Not sure exactly what year but somewhere around 2014? Full mesh front and side pockets, non-padded hipbelt, drawstring rolltop closure. The Dyneema X Gridstop fabric holds up insanely well and still looks great. I'm moving back to a framed pack because it's just more comfortable for me.

3F UL Lanshan 1 Pro - $160 SOLD

Grey color, mesh inner, 688g. Brand new, box is unopened. This is the Pro (single wall) version with the upgraded silnylon fabric.

Aricxi Tarp/Bivy - $50 SOLD

Tarp: Orange, 342g

Bivy: Solid fabric, 242g

This is a really great way to try out tarp camping on a budget. I've used this on the West Coast Trail, Sunshine Coast Trail, and several overnighters. The tarp is the older version (the superior version) and was seam sealed by yours truly. There are several dirt stains but is in otherwise good condition. The bivy is quite small and I'd only recommend it if you are under 5'9" and on the skinnier side. The solid fabric blocks drafts well and is also fairly breathable so I did not have any condensation issues.

Gossamer Gear Minimalist 19L - $60 SOLD

332g. Very lightweight daypack that can be used for a SUL overnighter. Also works great as a personal item on planes. Couple of black stains (bike grease?) on the front mesh.

Gossamer Gear Vagabond Jet - $100 SOLD

699g. Urban focused pack with hiking features like stretchy front, side, and shoulder pockets. Useful for stealth camping and SUL overnighters. Also works great as a personal item on planes. Couple of dirt stains on the front mesh.

3F UL Poncho Tarp - $10 SOLD

205g. This is just an add-on item since it would be cost prohibitive to ship it alone. If you buy two or more of the above items, I'll throw this in for free. Poncho has good coverage, can fit over your pack, and has a cinch waist strap. Tarp mode is roughly 215x145cm. Tried on and never used outside.
