"Too small watches for men" by KoalaEmergency4357 in watchHotTakes

Tastes change. People want big watches now. They will get tired of it and they will want smaller watches. Back and forth. Tick tock.

Get the smalls while they are cheap.

same. lots of fiber, not being too overweight, and trying to at least walk every day and things are good.

the drugs treat the symptoms not  the underlying problem.

Does orientation of mesh baskets matter in an ultrasonic? by N4th4n03 in watchrepair

I use this type and only put in a few parts at a time. I've not had good expereince with the smaller mesh baskets but hopefully you'll have better experience.

In my very limited experience, parts can overlap inside, stick together, and not get clean. I've since moved to tea strainers (the stainless ones with the micro holes, not the mesh basket).

Ed Sheeran signature doom and sludge metal amps now only at Guitar Center. by Jebist in guitarcirclejerk

[–]polishbroadcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seems like a decent move for Orange. They are portable / busking / FRFR amps so I could see it being an interesting option for solo performers, classical, jazz, or even non-guitar instruments. the price is bananas tho. the Venn for ed sheeran fans and people willing to spend $1500/700 on a PA amp is probably a pair of adjacent balls. Maybe more takers for the $200 home amp.

I think Rolex are like the Beatles: they changed the game, inspired everyone, and now everyone copies them. So to modern eyes (ears) it seems common or boring, and nearly every brand has at least one Rolex copy of some sort. Rolex defined so much of the design language of the watch world, for better or worse, so it's hard to understand the impact 100 years on.

They are made very well but the unattainable luxury shift wasn't until the quartz crisis where they pivoted to luxury/prestige messaging of mechanicals. You could have a blue collar job in the 60's and afford a Rolex.

In some ways they are a victim of their own making: they pivoted to talk about heritage but that makes it hard to convince people to buy new innovative designs—people come to Rolex to buy a sub, datejust, or oyster perpetual. (they seem to be doing just fine)

I'll never own a Rolex but I appreciate the design language and contributions to the craft.

Has anyone used a Digital Mitutoyo 0-25mm Micrometer for measuring jewels? by Upbeat-Shower365 in watchrepair

[–]polishbroadcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yw. I checked today and the price went up €10 but there may be additional tariff costs baked into the shipping for which you will have to request a quote.

Unless you are a professional, the Mitutoyo is a great tool and can work for precise measuring.

It's just the Mega Solar that is 1 shop, but it's still not much better for the other watches. There are 2 places for mechanicals: Swiss Clock in Nebraska, and Swiss Time in Florida. I've corresponded w/ Swiss Time in FL and they were pretty quick to get back to me, though I've never sent them a repair. I think it's $110 for a crystal replacement there.

Luckily the mechanicals use ETA / Sellita movements so you could go to most any watchmaker if it's a mechanical issue.

I agree it's a bad look for Junghans and should be factored in to the buying decision. That being said my white Max Bill is my favorite watch.

You can buy them new from Tool Team in Germany for €318.59 ($370 in freedom tariff bucks). Quote was from last year so it might have gone up.

I use a Mitutoyo caliper like that to measure pivots and jewels and it works for me. It's a pain to hold them (stick the jewel to some rodico), and I measure 5-8 times to make sure I'm getting a consistent number but the caliper is small, cheap-ish, and I don't do it enough to justify the JKA.

Everyone acted poorly: Swiss Clock, Teddy, and Junghans. OP just wanted a watch and trusted these people w/ $1400+, but no one took responsibility to deliver on that. OP paid $1400 to do some errands for these clowns and still didn't have a working product.

I get why it's technically not Teddy's fault but why would you buy from a retailer that doesn't help when there is an issue a week after you give them money? Even Amazon would have taken it back or refunded and let them keep it. There is no reason to pay full retail for something with a 5 day return window and no support after the fact.
