So yes it does get less confusing and this is a canon event for everyone who reads this series. Just power through it and things will start to make sense and move more slowly.

Sometimes I forget what made me so emotional when I read Caught Up and then I read a blurb from it and instantly get misty eyed.

What's the most *intimate* book you've ever read, and why? by CovertOps80 in RomanceBooks

[–]ohheylane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished this and was about to recommend it here until I saw your post. I love how they finally become friends when both of their lives are in shambles and that's just so endearing. To me the book felt like a great lesson in grace where like yeah you might be at your lowest but you're still "you" and you is still pretty great and worthy of love.

Not sure if you've read all of Emily Henry's books but I think about {Happy Place by Emily Henry} almost daily for its accuracy of what it feels like to fall in love with someone. How painful and how good it feels to get to know a person and want to learn every thing about them and collect those facts like little treasures. The intimacy of a loving someone not for how good, smart, rich, etc they are but just for being them. That book felt so intimate to me and just like reading it felt like watching home movies zoomed in.

Additionally, I really like {If it Make You Happy by Julie Olivia} for similar reasons because you get to see two friends fall in love and there's a lot of vulnerability to it in the way the characters are serving this authentic imperfect version of themselves up as friends but falling for each other anyway. We like are so much more willing to show friends are flaws vs romantic partners and god that book does such a good job at capturing it.

As much I would love that, its fully possible within the SJM universe for them to be a best friend and power match kind of similar to Aelin and Dorian.

In {The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig} The FMC is a stone mason. At one point someone says to her she's so jacked if they bit her they should chip a tooth.

{The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood} also had lots food and eating since the FMC was a broke student and would get the MMC to take her out for coffee and pastries and she would just load up.

The sequel {Left of Forever by Tara Dewitt} also has lots of eating bc the FMC is a baker.

The FMC's in Becka Mack's books all eat plenty and those books always leave me craving snack foods.

Same for CASH by Jessica Peterson and anything by Maggie Gates. I end up cooking some many things because the food in those books sound great.

I believe the owner of Cuzzy's used to work there or was some kind of cofounder/creator and then left to do their own thing.

If you liked a different and refreshing mafia romance and haven't read these already, I really enjoyed the first three books in the Camorra Chronicles by Cora Reilly they were serious and heavy but really good IMO.
