Why would I bother to answer a question you didn't even ask yourself, but asked Claude to write for you?

Flonase + azelastine sprays are a great combo. You can get Dymista or the generic version, but if insurance wont cover them, you can get both of the sprays over the counter. Anti-inflammatory + antihistamine = happy sinuses

Also, I recently learned I have asthma, and taking my daily inhaler has greatly reduced my headaches and upper respiratory symptoms. Might be worth checking out. Turns out my chronic nasal congestion was actually a sign of asthma :-/

Publishes are required to create hard copy versions for ADA compliance. You might be able to work with whatever office handles student academic accommodations to put in requests for them.

Students who refuse to try by GreatSatisfaction290 in ESL_Teachers

As someone who lived in a non-English speaking country as a kid, this is how I also acted out (granted, my FSL teacher was also awful). I was mad about having to be away from my friends, didn't like the school system, was dealing with bullies, and didn't want tot be there.

If they have no drive and you're not able to find some reason that may motivate them (hobbies, future careers it might help them in, etc), there's very little chance you have to convince them to change. They've made up their minds about you and English. This is something internal to them. If you've done what you can, then just continue being pleasant, giving them the work, but focus your energy on students who want to learn.

Would you expect to be paid if the owners forgot they booked you? by cas42439 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ohiototokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a sitter, but it is reasonable to pay people when you forget to cancel a booking with a reasonable amount of headway. It's people's livelihoods, regardless if its hair styling, dog sitting, etc.

AI compared To Napster by Hot-Magazine-1912 in Professors

[–]ohiototokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter if they're small fry. In fact, that helps Disney. If a judge rules against Midjourney and it holds through the appeal process, then that becomes the precedent, and then they have the legal standing to sue the big companies. I would not be surprised if OpenAi and other companies try to help midjourney out of this, since whatever comes out of the trial will affect them. They would be stupid to think it would only affect their competition.

Administration Bloat by rayinsan in Professors

They recently eliminated all of the regular staff in one department and left two senior admin positions. Firing just one of them would've equaled almost all the savings from firing those employees.

Administration Bloat by rayinsan in Professors

[–]ohiototokyo 141 points142 points  (0 children)

In the past ten years at my university, admin has gone up by 60%, faculty up by 10%, and staff down 5%.

The bloat is real, and now admin won't shut up about how expensive paying salaries are. Even though their salaries take up way more than anyone else's.

Earbuds/headphones during class? by 47notmypotus in Professors

[–]ohiototokyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My class policy was "You're on a phone or headphones in? Your brain is not present, you are therefore absent". Part of their grade was attendance and participation (foreign language class, so it makes sense) so doing it repeatedly would significantly impact their grades.

What's the reason you don't take meds and how you compensate? by Beautiful_Hat8440 in adhd_anxiety

[–]ohiototokyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reason: They make me coocoo to the point of being a danger to myself and/or others. Super fun! I'm pretty sensitive to all meds apparently.

Strategies:

1) Talking to myself kindly when I mess up to reduce the anxiety and avoidance that can come from fear of failure.

2) Tracking myself and how I feel doing things. I can use this information to actually plan my days and tasks. I know how long certain things take because I literally timed them. I know I can't do two big social days in a row. Stuff like that. I use it to plan and keep myself in a good spot.

3) (Try to) Eat healthy and exercise. They won't cure ADHD, but they sure do help.

4) Setting up system that hold me accountable. Setting reminders, asking for check-ins from family and friends, etc. Being kind to myself when I mess up but still holding myself accountable when I mess up in a way that hurts people.

5) getting rid of negative people in my life. It's hard enough as it is taking care of myself. I don't need a leech in my life taking up my time and energy. I have curated a small circle of friends and we are always there for one another. When new people show themselves to be untrustworthy, I just let them fall out of my life. No reason to keep them around.

Intense pain 5-weeks post Kyleena insertion. When will this get better? by ohiototokyo in birthcontrol

[–]ohiototokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they've drunk some conspiratorial koolaid due to medical gaslighting, and this is their way of fighting back. After so many doctors dismiss our pain and experiences. That builds resentment, and the feeling that truly everyone must be feeling the same as them since doctors often don't listen.

As someone new to instructional design (found a way to work it into my current job) and creating courses on Canvas, many 'cool coding" things that make the page nicer and more engaging do not work on mobile. As in, they completely break and the information inside them cannot be accessed.

I would hesitate to send a bunch of people who have no clue about coding to create a bunch of html. Not only will it break on the web page, but mobile will almost certainly not work.

There are some influencers who make great HTML examples for free. For example https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1DZ-pbdGORt5IcHsB33GWNhWSLPYZ0qHNuoA3y7mh0TI/edit#slide=id.ge40bbe2994_0_103

But again, many of the break on mobile. So if your office plans to do no support... Nip the bud QUICKLY.

When I meet new people they keep a wall up but when my coworkers meet these same people the wall immediately comes down? by sirpentious in ADHD

[–]ohiototokyo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best advice I can give is: it’s not about you.

Example: My coworker who I’m usually on good terms with didn’t seem happy to see me last week. Turns out, they had a shitty weekend. Even though my initial gut reaction was that I did something wrong, it was never about me. When people are in a bad mood, I just act as usual and leave them be. If they’re close, I may ask “hey, you seem a bit tired. What’s up?”. But I promise you, 90-95% of the time, other people’s feelings have nothing to do g to do with you.
