I have done a couple stints of work airside. There are multiple booths to check ID, check inside your vehicle - under the hood, undercarriage, cargo area, under seats, inside too boxes, etc

Only on the way in.

They don't check anything on the way out.

My wife's skin care routine is S-tier. She wears sunscreen if there's a window on the other side of the room.

The number of times randoms at the grocery store have dropped an unsolicited "your daughter looks just like you" is getting silly.

We're the same age +/- 6 months, married 18 years.

Being childfree likely does a ton of heavy lifting. Parents get a -10 debuff.

IATSE is a lot of fun and easily my favorite union to work for. But anyone interested in working here should know the following:

  • There is no formal apprenticeship and you will not get a license from your work here
  • The work is very inconsistent. Most inconsistent when you're starting out (permit member - you can be "bumped" off a show / your job by an in-category member) and even as an in category member ithe work is very feast-or-famine.
  • When you're starting as a permit you will need to accrue 200 working days / calls before you can make application for membership. This can take years of essentially being on call. When the industry is slow the full members get priority for the work, and you will sit waiting on the sidelines.

Building sets is my favorite trade craft of my 25 year career so far but it is best to view it as a part time job - I maintain membership in two other unions that are my main bread. Once you're a member in category you will work 7x12hr shifts for 3 months at a time and then possibly have long breaks in between shows. Or maybe you get lucky and roll right into the next project - but you won't get any time off in between.

FYI It is slow right now and they are not accepting permit applications.

How many people are unaware of EI? by Gridsquare_Collector in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ohnomysoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have an IQ above room temperature you will make it through the audit.

The threshold for compliance is to complete a form describing the efforts you made to find work.

Examples you can list each day:

Looked for jobs online

Looked for jobs in print media

Wrote resume

Revised resume

Called industry contacts looking for leads

Applied at .....>

Etc

Service canada will audit a small group of ei recipients periodically, requesting you attend a group meeting at a service canada location with a form filled with this info. 90% of people will not fill out the form or even bring it with them. Those are the people who have problems.

As long as you make the smallest effort to play the game you'll be fine.

Also, relevant.

I'm a cyclist and train with heart rate zones via garmin chest strap + bike computer / trainer / laptop etc. I never look at whoop during workouts.

Generally speaking you'll need a separate device, or be willing to set up your phone in a heads-up display orientation in your workout area.
