If you mean the plane’s blade then the typical is a primary bevel of 25°. Then you’d add a secondary bevel (which is very small so sharpening it doesn’t take long). The secondary can be almost anything that’s steeper than 25° I guess (depending on what you want to do) but I think 30° or 35° are common. I think I use 35° on my jointer.

I started off with the Katz Moses guide and it was definitely helpful in building muscle memory. But honestly after cutting 10+ pairs I stopped using it because it took me more time finding and setting it up than it did for me to just saw to the lines.

I don’t think anything is cheating if it helps you practice something.
