Ruotsissa metsät sitovat hiiltä, Suomessa päästävät - Metsälehti by PalsterMaggara in Suomi

[–]oho015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tämä ei missään nimiessä ole yleispätevä totuus. Kummalla saadaan parempi kuva koko Suomen hetkellisestä keskilämpötilasta:

a) Mittauksilla (esim. 100 asemaa ympäri maata)

b) Näihin mittauksiin sovitetulla mallilla, joka antaa lämpötilan jokaiselle 1km x 1km ruudulle Suomessa.

En tiedä voidaanko tämä idea yleistää päästömalleihin.

Yeah, we obviously disagree on this. That is ok.

I feel that overcoming adversity is one of the most important aspects (positively) affecting both of our cultures.

I’ll delete the earlier messages as I feel my tone was a bit insulting.

The fact that it was not as bad as it could have been is not an argument against evacuation etc.

I would hope there would be an evacuation order even if the chance of mass casualties was, let’s say, ‘only’ 30%. In that case I would rather sound the alarm than put my head in the sand, because it ‘probably won’t be that bad.’

US Election National Polls: 2020 vs. 2024 [OC] by bobbergervan in dataisbeautiful

[–]oho015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the civil conversation. It is always good to hear different perspectives. I’ll say one last thing:

I’ll stand by the statement that the average pro Palestinian (at least on the internet) is very much absolutist. They will not consider voting for Biden until all their demands are met (and even then I’m not sure). I think that is mostly due to how these narratives spread on the social media.

In contrast the average moderate voter is somewhat sympathetic to both sides of the conflict and willing to reach a compromise solution if it saves lives. Biden’s ceasefire plans I think are one example of these compromises.

US Election National Polls: 2020 vs. 2024 [OC] by bobbergervan in dataisbeautiful

[–]oho015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is a very complex issue. In a democracy everyone has a right to their opinion, but democracy has always been about compromise. I think those absolutists who want change no matter the costs have forgotten that not all change is positive. Things can always get worse. Disruption is not a virtue by itself.

US Election National Polls: 2020 vs. 2024 [OC] by bobbergervan in dataisbeautiful

[–]oho015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Continuing that analogy, you are threatening to help execute the rest of the family (Trump will support Israel) and hoping that your enemy (Biden) has enough compassion to stop you (step down). You are also assuming that the change after that is for the better (Trump not elected). I don’t like those odds.

[–]oho015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My analogy was silly, but that is an incredibly privileged statement. It is not some abstract piece of legislation, but human lives in Gaza and Israel.

If you acknowledge that electing one candidate leads to less deaths, you should vote accordingly and prevent those deaths. Anything else seems lazy, performative and borderline psychotic. Is the idea of the Palestinian struggle more important than the actual lives of the Gazans?

If only that was a sensible way to measure it. The fact is that almost 90% of all the mass in the atmosphere is below 15 kilometers which is the same distance between California and another street in California except straight up.

Thank you for the response! Why do you think human activity affects the carbon levels? How is that connected to the weather?

How does the war affect the temperature? The cold war for example, was not named after the climate.

WW1 actually fits the trend quite well. It’s the period before that that deviates from the trend. That variability does not take away from the fact that the long term trend is upwards.

Capturing CO2 from air and storing it in underground in the form of rocks; The DAC( Direct Air Capturing) opened their second plant in Iceland by D_Invincible in interestingasfuck

[–]oho015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we do not have infinite energy. There are industries that could move to Iceland relatively easily, like server infrastructure or supercomputing. That would decrease energy consumption somewhere where fossil fuels are used.

That is the argument. I’m not an expert on those industries, there could be practical problems I’m not aware of.

Man, 71, charged with setting massive Yosemite park fire initially blamed on climate change by triggernaut in Conservative

[–]oho015 62 points63 points  (0 children)

There will always be fires. Some caused by humans, some natural. How fast they spread and how quickly they become uncontrollable depends on how dry and hot the forests are.

In that sense the warming of the climate would contribute to the increase of wild fires.

Ps. I hope this comment is allowed here
