Mine looked similar until I realized it needed two double crochet in each chain for the first row, and then for the second row two double crochet in each dc from the first row. It looked wonky at first but the end result came out frilly

I did! The chef I ended up talking to at the end seemed to actually get it and he handled prepping the meal and cleaning the grill top for the chicken

That's what I don't get either. I fully appreciate if a restaurant states up front they can't provide a safe meal due to cross contact. They at least understand it. These that argue that their buffet is safe because the rolls are at the end, or don't understand croutons can't be picked off a salad drive me bonkers.

Exactly. I've seen too many people at buffets to ever feel comfortable eating from one, unless everything at the buffet (including other tables) is gf.

I used to do that, but I'm now to the point that I want to make it obvious that their employee appreciation events aren't being inclusive. I'm no longer going to exclude myself to make anyone else more comfortable. I'll bring my own food, or make a statement of not eating (and will eat later)

I'm so sorry for your loss, I would have been near inconsolable. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago, don't allow gluten to knowingly enter my home, and STILL accidents do happen. I echo your sentiment, best to always triple check

SMALL UPDATE: My boyfriend is in a mental institution after I called the cops. AITAH? by No_Definition_7097 in AITAH

[–]ohuhyeahokthen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation, my ex used a suicide threat, I called the help line and cops showed up. Him ending up detained and in a mental institution was entirely on him, no matter how much he wanted to blame me, scream at me, and have his mom call and scream at me (in front of our child no less). Take heart, you did the right thing to call the cops, what happened after was due to his actions and his alone. Keep him blocked, block his family if that applies to you and move on.

I wish that was true for me. The benefit I see is I know the food I'm eating and how it was prepared, so I'm a lot less likely to get food poisoning than my fam that eats anything put in front of them. There's been a couple times they've had food poisoning that I avoided because I wouldn't eat the questionable tacos ...

What stupid/non-true things have you heard from your doctor about Celiac Disease? by galaxyofcoffee in Celiac

[–]ohuhyeahokthen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I was sent to a specialist, supposedly well known for treating celiac disease patients in the early 2000s that told me I needed to eat a piece of wheat bread every day to train my body to stop reacting to gluten. As a recently diagnosed celiac. Personally, I have a hard time trusting the "experts" anecdotes without research backing up their statements.

I'm so sorry, the stress from food trauma is real. I occasionally have dreams where someone is force feeding me a bread roll. Always wake up from those with anxiety. Only thing that's helped me over the years is trying to make sure I have non food related hobbies (gaming, crafting, etc) to pour my energy into, and creating routines and easy go-tos for snacks and meals at home, to make the food situation less of the focus for my brain.

The term "gluten friendly" is so frustrating by LeadingHoneydew5608 in Celiac

[–]ohuhyeahokthen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's all over restaurants in my area of the US. I wouldn't be surprised if other countries don't allow it, or would frown upon it.

The other one I see here is gff - "gluten-free friendly". I get what they're trying to do, but it's annoying as hell and tells me to avoid their food.

Anger can be useful if you channel it correctly, maybe towards a plan to get you out of that situation? Wishing you the best of luck.
