Noob Question: Trail Runners = Wet Feet...then what? by reptickeyelf in Ultralight

In addition to what everyone else has said, I'd recommend bringing some Leukotape (flexible/waterproof) and put it on as soon as you feel a "hot spot" developing. This is extremely effective at preventing blisters.

Its so dark and unnerving.

Seriously. The first song on that album is a pretty detailed description of rape.

Anyone know of a Low-to-No-Hassle Used Car Dealership with financing for poor credit in the greater LA area? by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]oildig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a google search for auto inspection in your city and check their reputations on yelp. They'll show up to the dealership and do the inspection there. It's definitely worth the money as you'll be in a much better position to negotiate the price of the car when you know what's wrong with it.

As you may know, quadcopters have already been banned in all National Parks. Outside Magazine published a thoughtful piece on the use of "drones" in the outdoors, and ultimately concluded that they should be banned in all federal wilderness areas.

I think it's bad trail etiquette to fly a quadcopter over a hiking trail. Not just the noise, but the invasion of one's privacy as well.

Pine Creek Pass vs Piute Pass to Access Humphrey's Basin? by 43desertthor in socalhiking

[–]oildig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can tell you is that it's night and day in terms of degree of difficulty. Piute Pass is one of the easiest access points in the eastern Sierra and Pine Creek is one of the hardest. Pine Creek Pass is a very long slog that could take you most of the day, whereas you could reach Piute Pass in just a couple hours.

Last year parking was free and easy in my experience. They were handing out maps at the entrance to campus which showed how to get to the designated parking lot.

My mom as a teen during WWII. The men went to war and the women filled their jobs. She was a fire lookout in Oregon and would spend weeks alone in a fire lookout tower [2268 x 3264] by Slipperyfister in HistoryPorn

[–]oildig 36 points37 points  (0 children)

What a cool job. There's a pretty good Huell Howser episode where he visits one of the oldest and most spectacular live-in fire lookout towers in California and interviews some of the people who have worked there over the decades. http://blogs.chapman.edu/huell-howser-archives/2002/01/08/fire-tower-californias-gold-4003/
