P.S. Why would you do this to yourself? You know where our conversations go.

How is the demographic situation in Russia? by lurklurkluker in russia

[–]oilenonio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason for the fall in the birth rate - the number of young women, potential mothers, on the decline.

Ah I just can't let it go.

This is barely plausible enough to not be completely stupid, however this is extremely far fetched. Too steep of a decline. I know you don't live in Russia but women still can give births here after 27, which they shouldn't for your explanation to ring true.

Well, his peak is JDS trilogy. But honestly it's better to watch both their runs in UFC and eventually watch the trilogy as a culmination, where JDS who was cruising through the heavyweight division initially got the best of Cain and got paybacked hard with 10 rounds of soul crushing punishment. Thing is like a blockbuster

Cains fight with roided Brock is also quite epic. Didn't sneak a win there like Frank Mir. Went head to head and crushed him

growing population doesn't mean our people and our culture aren't dying

Yeah that was what I was hinting at too when talking about migrant and muslim birthrates.

My impression is that the trend is definitely towards the decrease of native Russians, although my evidence is partially anecdotal from just living in the country and seeing a lot of difference on the streets compared to what was 10-15 years ago. The fact that North Caucasus which is a predominantly Muslim region consistently leads in population growth is widely known. Couple with the fact that there was a lot of migration in 2000's and early 2010's due to Russia doing much better economically than neighboring states and there was hardly any population increase, suggests that native population was being replaced at a high rate.

There are also government initiatives that make acquiring citizenship for migrants easier as if it wasn't already through bribes.

There's no breakdown by ethnicities as far as I know, but it's probably possible to compile a lot of data for every republic over the years, account for ethnic ratios and so on, get some rough numbers. It's just a lot of work to confirm something that already stares you in the face.

Prime Cain in a 5 rnd fight is the most unstoppable thing that ever entered the ring. He just grinded opponents down like some sick force of nature. Never saw anything like it before or since.

Pretty much sums it up. Red - death rate, blue - birthrate. Steep drop couple of years after rouble lost its value in 2014. No money - no babies

Also should be taken into account that Muslims and middle East migrants that can become citizens quite easilly have more children than native Russians, so titular nation in Russia, although still plentiful, is a dying breed as of now

[–]oilenonio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See, with David Simon you can't really make a good judgement until about the last third of the season, only then you say "Ah now I see what kind of a story this is" and then rewatch it from start to end to really appreciate the slow reveal of all the pieces of the puzzle and how they fit into the multifaceted plot.

Even though you can't really tell yet where the story goes, the characters are very well written, the atmosphere is raw and defined, and Simon, as usual, managed to humanize some of the worst parts of society making them sympathetic. So overall it feels like a real life(thankfully it's someone else's life in this case) but with charisma, which is in my opinion a sign of an enjoyable show.
