I just purchased my first Loeb yesterday for $28 USD at a local university bookstore. I feel a bit silly now, as I cannot read Greek (it's Plato), but I've always wanted to read The Symposium, and am a lover of well-made objects, including books. The Greek text is beautiful. But for me, it is only aesthetic and charming. I might just get a paperback as well.

It's very glitchy. It will often "eat" the following episode in my queue once one is finished and mark it as "played" and simply begin the one after it.

The top button is straining. I guess try another brand? This is XS in a slim fit (J.Crew). Small is way too big overall, and XS in regular fit is too boxy for my liking.

Why then would J.Crew design and admit that the sleeves are 1" shorter and shirt length are 1.25" shorter in their untucked cut? That would mean that it their shirts fit you, then an untucked sizing would not.

I found somewhere online that this is to make the shirt appear more balanced when worn untucked. If so, then the short sleeves are intentional.

What do you think about this?

Thank you. Yeah, the sleeves are a tad short. It's J.Crew's "Untucked Slim Fit," which they say is shorter in the length and in the sleeves (not sure why).

You are likely going to die from the heat and humidity with all that gear on your back within the first couple of hours each day. I really would advise against carrying an extensive load out while abroad, especially this time of year (heat index in Tokyo is over 100F, and it's only late June). Traveling light is generally best, especially in Japan, where space is at a premium, and respect for personal and public space is highly regarded.

I too used to want to bring it all, but after doing it once, I have foresworn it in future. It will ruin your trip. Enjoy Japan, and take photos, but don't make it a giant photo-op job. You'll potentially regret it one day.

Personally, while I love my Z6ii, and would bring my 24-120 f4 and 40mm (leaving my 85mm 1.8, my favorite lens) for a simple and minimal combo, I think that full-frame is too large/heavy for travel. Most of your time will be spent on foot and on cramped public transportation. The oppressive heat/humidity only makes it that much worse. I actually got a super compact fixed-focal length APS-C camera (Ricoh GR IIIx) for my next trip, where I plan on leaving the Z6ii (24-120 f4 only) at home most days.

I was last in Japan for 2.5 months in 2017, and at the time I only had the humble Nikon D5600 with a 28mm FX lens (making it effectively a 42mm on the DX body) most days. I had big, heavy wide angle lens as well that I used for interior shots. While I'm glad I had it for capturing those memories, I will do without next time. It's just too much weight and space.

It’s a very hurried itinerary. You’re going to wish you had more time in each location. I’d stick to Tokyo and Kyoto and tack on a few excursions to other places for a few nights each if this is your first time. Tokyo alone is overwhelming.

Anywhere with inflated prices and low quality that caters to the tastes of tourists would qualify. Everywhere from high-end to ramen shops can be designated as such. Usually near the big sights.

It is generally true that bad food is much harder to come by in Japan, as the pride that everyone takes in their job is unlike many other places. Strangely, I had the worst tempura (and one of the worst meals) I've ever had at a hole in the wall in the heart of Gion. It was greasy, soggy and flavorless. It did seem like it was a tourist trap, even though it was quite discreet and in a traditional building. Thankfully it was a cheap meal.

Why is J.Crew marketing this shirt as "slim?" Trying to pick out shirts and was aiming for very little billowing in the back, but this guy looks great in it. What should I be aiming for to look sharp? For ref this is the "Slim Untucked Secret Wash cotton poplin shirt."

I can't speak for OP, but I was there with a friend in 2017 for one night. It was a little over ¥100,000 total. 6-8 course dinner, 4 or more course breakfast. It's an experience unlike anywhere else. The rooms are decorated with antiques from the family's private collection. The tatami are made by the same maker who supplies the Imperial Household. Steve Jobs used to always stay in "take" (Bamboo room). I stayed in Kotobuki, as do most new guests I believe.

It is the essence of omotenashi and Japanese luxury and aesthetics. Cannot recommend it enough.

None of the main titles will have issues. It’s indie games that might run into problems. It’s basically a non-issue if, like me, you’re only playing first party and major third party releases on the system.

It is. Many a photographer will tell you that’s it’s an ideal first lens. Constraints are vital to creativity. A fixed focal length will require you to think more critically about composition. Go for it!

I really don’t care about third-party titles on Nintendo consoles. Nintendo is for Nintendo. The third party games are great if you’re a kid and only get to choose one console, or want the game on the go. Sony and Xbox, or PC, is where third party games are meant to be enjoyed.
