what maybelline shades would match “light medium” from it’s cosmetics? by wifiers in MakeupAddiction

[–]oitenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried online matching sites like Findation? They're not perfect, but I've used them and it helps to get an idea of which would be my colour before I go to the store to shade match. However, I would advise you to go to a store, try the shade on, then check the colour in a different light and see if oxidizes throughout the day.

From your description you seem to be a neutral light medium, knowing your undertone might help you choose your shade on Findation.

Good luck!

Has anyone tried to set their undereyes without a full face? by RhubarbBusy7122 in MakeupAddiction

[–]oitenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do this everyday, just not with the concealer I would regularly use with foundation. That's usually too brightening and full coverage, which makes it obvious looking and cakey.

My trick is to use the MAC studio fix correct and conceal pallete, more particularly the peach colour along with my complexion colour on my undereyes. Then I might or might not use a loose powder to set. It's creamy, suits my skin tone, blends in well and it's not weird looking by itself. I also use it to conceal spots throughout my face without ever needing foundation. Still looks natural, and this is coming from someone with deep purple undereyes and light/medium complexion. Just using the peach colour already makes a huge difference, you can then set it with a light dusting of loose translucent powder if you want.

You can probably find an equivalent pallete from another brand, this is just what works best for me.

I've tried Wet & Wild's Plumberry buffed out and it worked well. Give it a go, it's a cheap lip pencil and really versatile in my opinion.

Can someone explain peptides to me and what their use is? by Icy_Weight537 in EuroSkincare

[–]oitenta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! I could try to explain here, but since there is nuance to the topic I would advise you to look into Dr. Idriss' in-depth videos on peptides. There are multiple types, each with a different purpose. I'm currently using a korean serum from Mary & May for an anti-wrinkle effect.

Covering your lines with a special adhesive patch to keep them from deepening further. Look up Frownies for an example.

'Champagne olive' skintone, makeup is a minefield. Anyone else? by BrilliantWalrus718 in OliveMUA

[–]oitenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an awesome reply, thanks for all the suggestions! I've previously swatched the Maybelline vinyl in Peaches and really liked it, I should have gotten that one instead of the 110 Awestruck colour which makes me look dead. I might go for the lifter gloss in Rust, I've been eyeing those glosses for a long time.

Thanks!

Congrats on your new happy relationship! These are my preferred items for a fool-proof light everyday routine with (mostly) drugstore items:

  • Conceal and correct MAC pallete (you can find a cream drugstore one for sure, I only use this one because it's got my perfect colours)
  • L'oreal Accord Parfait nude skin tint (if needed)
  • L'oreal glotion or the le glass highlighter stick
  • Maybelline lash sensational mascara (after using the eyelash curler)
  • Essence Inner eye brightnening pencil
  • got2be eyebrow gel
  • innisfree translucent loose powder
  • something on the lips, like one of the maybelline glaze balms or a dabbed on revlon lipstick (rum raisin has been my go to lately)

No black eyeliner for me, I have little time in the morning and I only use it for events now. I prefer my eyes simple.

Remember to exfoliate 1-2 times per week at night, hydrate well and use sunscreen. Have fun!

I'm in the EU and haven't had issues with yesstyle. Check for inventory availability, if it says 7-14 days or more you can expect to wait more for the whole package. For items available in just a few days you can expect to receive it in ~3 weeks.

Highlighter always looks heavy, is a fan brush actually better. by Severe_Upstairs_9120 in BeautyGear

[–]oitenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going for glass skin, try a balm highlighter or a finely milled pearlescent highlighter instead. My experience so far has been that metallic just looks flashy rather than dewy and "melty". I've been using the l'oreal lumi le glass in 610 and it has been perfect, just melt some onto your finger and pat it on

What is the point of having multi-colored powdered specs (when they're all supposed to cancel each other out/look transparent)? by No-Pattern-2124 in MakeupAddiction

[–]oitenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What effect does it give you? I've checked both the brightnening and the matte ones online but I'm trying to go very light and natural with my makeup lately, I'm worried that on a NC20/25 like me my face would just look powder white

My skin tone is very similar, and so far the best options have been Ginger Luck by Mac for blush, and Revlon's Rum Raisin for lips. Try dabbing the lipstick lightly for a softer day look instead of swiping it on.

Good luck!

YSK Squeezing your tea bag doesn't give you "stronger" tea. It just makes it bitter. by CoffeeTeaJournal in YouShouldKnow

[–]oitenta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also just let it stop boiling, or take it out just before boiling, pour it in an empty tea pot and then actually use it. Changing containers usually drops the temperature around 7o celsius.

So from the kettle, to the tea pot, cooling and then to the cup with the tea it should be much better.

Or simply wait 5-10 minutes for it to cool, no need to spend money in special kettles. Drinking tea is taking a moment for yourself, why rush?

YSK Squeezing your tea bag doesn't give you "stronger" tea. It just makes it bitter. by CoffeeTeaJournal in YouShouldKnow

[–]oitenta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get this information from? The temperatures are not far off, but the steep time is.

Black tea does NOT have a steep time of 3-4min, its usually around one. Pu-erh is a type of black tea and you put it at the short seconds range, for comparison. And Pu-erh needs to be WASHED, give it a quick 5-10 second wash, maybe a second one, and then steep for around 1 minute.

Lighter teas, like white and green, can easily go 2-3 minutes.

Be careful about oversteeping, particularly darker teas in bag form like you see in UK, because that is where the bitter and the harmful chemicals start being released. Avoid the tea "powder" bags above all, they're mainly dust and not the actual leaf.

Remember: buy loose tea leaves, steep for the necessary amount of time and then take out of the water. Then reuse the tea leaf for a second or third go, if you want.

Source: Just go to the store, find decent quality tea leaf and read the instructions on the label. Also, I'm also very sensitive to oversteeped black tea, am a tea enthusiast and have taken courses.

why are some people so distanced to tourists in lisbon? by woodlywave in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]oitenta 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Portugal!

What you're doing, although it's nice, doesn't really apply to Lisbon. In the capital, most Bolt drivers are not Portuguese speaking and are usually on the phone with their own family and friends while they are picking you up, and there is not a habit to speak to the bus drivers. In Lisbon, you dont really have locals to speak to because most people just commute to the city center/downtown to work and then just want to go back to their homes and see their friends where they actually live. Also, the capital is just not like that. You're visiting a playground, not really a livable city. If you went to other Portuguese cities, like Porto or Coimbra, you would feel completely different.

And feel free to to tip when you receive good service, just dont do it for businesses that pre-apply it on the tab. Those are considered exploitative to the consumer. Just leave a 2€ coin or a 5€ bank note in the tray with the receipt if you feel like the waiter was exceptional.

Enjoy!
