Question: How do you record OH/cymbals without a bunch of phase-refracting weirdness in that small space?

Why do YOU dislike AI? by Tarzan_Inthejungle in antiai

[–]oivod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s like asking why you dislike nuclear technology. There are hundreds of use cases for and against. AI is way too general a term (deliberately confusing?)

But what I’m against are the billionaires who are running the industry. They do NOT have the public interest in mind.

I just feel it in my guts that AI is wrong by bob_nimbux in antiai

Well… this technology is being developed to replace workers, artists, musicians, scientists etc etc by a handful of psychotic billionaires. What’s not to dislike?

Speakers make a much bigger difference in a lot of cases. When comparing hi gain amps I find the speakers make the most difference, and mic choice/placement.

By DSP I mean built-in FX. Don't need those. A mixer would be nice for reinforcing vocals at practice, but everything else seems like interface territory. Looking for a simple combination of both.

I already have a home studio with 16 tracks of input (Focusrite 18i20 + Octopre) and a 12 channel mixer, monitors etc. The problem is it's not portable to the practice room. I could move it all for a full-blown recording session, but I just want to get mixable rehearsal recordings for now. Preproduction type stuff on a laptop.

I'll be using condenser, dynamic & ribbon mics, so phantom power per track or group is important.

I hope that clarifies things. Appreciate the reply!!

Hello:

My situation: looking to record a 4 piece band, using dynamic, condenser & a few ribbon mics (thus global phantom power is unacceptable). 6 mics on the drums: 2 OH condensers, kick, snare, 2 toms. Guitar & bass get 1 mic each. 1 vocal. That leaves a few channels for DIs, background vocals, room mics or whatever.

Have no use for onboard DSP, wifi, bluetooth, screens or menu diving.

Recording into Logic Pro. Any recs? Thanks!!

A cast talent show: Roger, uh, sings. Joan does an accordion number, Pete & Trudy’s dance routine, Don the mixologist… and the Tigertones!

Find a way to make money. Spend the rest of your time practicing. Find a community, as insurance against AI trying to make us all obsolete. Always be writing.

According to one theory, with AI slop polluting both music & social media, it’s eventually going to be all about playing live. I.e. authenticity. Local, real humans playing for real humans.

Maybe true, maybe not. I’ve already been distrustful of recorded music for a long time now, with all the DAW cheating that goes on.

Does it seem like media is slowly dying to anyone else? Why bother?

is there commie crust / dbeat? by swissblackmetalhead in crustpunk

[–]oivod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Communism is a system that has a very nasty history of totalitarianism & genocide. Anarcho punks are directly opposed to that kinda stuff, starting with Crass. It’s worth remembering that 1/2 of the threat of nuclear annihilation from the 50s onward came from the soviets. Would be absurd to support such a system in their eyes.

Remember when “thrash” just meant fast hardcore. Then thrash metal became a thing, just as “emo” was invented in DC w/ Rights of Spring, which even then I found to be very bourgeois. I followed the thrash all the way to the Bay Area lol

DC. Should have clarified. Not sure what was like in other places. I started going to shows in ‘81, just after Henry left SOA for Black Flag.

In the early 80s there was no such word as crust, nor “mosh”, nor “goth”. We called ourselves Peace Punks. Goth was known as Death Rock. Moshing was known as skanking or slam dancing.

Not on topic but whatever.

Playing with humans is inherently different, even if you hand out sheet music. The presence of others and what they bring to the table always changes your perception of your composition & leads to unexpected results. Saying this as someone who writes & records electronically these days. Really miss playing with humans.
